Modern Warfare 4 has new unexpected info that has recently been reported. Even though MW4 isn’t set to release until 2026. From the Campaign, MP, and the console platforms it will be on, Modern Warfare 4 is shaping up to be a change of pace for the Modern Warfare Series. Today, we will go over the recent reports for MW4. Ready to learn more? Here’s what you need to know:
Modern Warfare 4, currently codenamed as PROJECT REX in the COD HQ files, has huge new information from sources. The game is roughly still 2 years away, so all info below is subject to change from now until release.
CAMPAIGN DETAILS
Twitter user Vondyispog released a big tweet detailing the (rumored) plot for Modern Warfare 4. Starting off, the game takes a lot of inspiration from MW2019 by hiding shock value and being much darker in tone. It also takes inspiration from both the original trilogy and MW2019 structure with a split narrative. The different POVs are stated to be the TF-141 and the Demon Dogs, each accompanied by a respective unit with Makarov’s Inner Circle and the Russian Federation being the main antagonists.

On the TF-141 side of the story, you’ll see the return of the original team that we know with the exception of Soap who is seemingly not retconned from his death in MWIII. TF-141 will be accompanied by the SAS and will have a stealth infiltration and hero-like moments they’re infamous for (however it’s been stated that TF-141 won’t be emphasized as heroes but rather the best of the best). One thing, however, is that Price’s murder of General Shepherd doesn’t seem to be a major plot device. Now, with the Demon Dogs, it will be more in line with the American Rangers/Delta Force missions from the original MW Trilogy. These missions will focus on urban firefights and CQB room clearing segments with the help of the USMC. The cast of characters for the Demon Dogs will be mostly new characters except for Griggs from MW2019.

The setting of the game is a near-futuristic approach similar to that seen in BO2 and Ghosts, but it will still remained grounded. This change also allows Infinity Ward to take creative liberties in technology while still keeping true to a modern time affected by Black Ops 2’s plot. It’s unknown if the events of BO2 will be directly referenced in MW4, but it’s highly likely they will be. There is also an attack on NYC that seems to be inspired by the original MW3, but rather than being an invasion, it’s just an attack by Makarov posing as Russia.
INFINITY WARD LEADERSHIP
You read correctly, Infinity Ward is still attached as the lead to MW4. However, there’s a catch. being that new leadership has been appointed at the studio. Vondyispog also stated that the same leadership from MWII is no longer at the helm for MW4, so it’s likely that MW4 will not backtrack on game mechanics like MWII did in 2022.

What could this mean for the game’s quality? Well… hopefully nothing. The game is set to release in 2026, and will be a continuation of the current Modern Warfare series regardless, but there’s hope Infinity Ward doesn’t remove fan-favorite features from the game fundamentally. It’s been stated too that MW4 will feature omni-movement AND the new movement that BO7 is reported to have.
ALL WEAPONS & PLATFORMS RETURNING?
MWII (2022) had a controversial addition of weapon platforms in the create a class. While realism and gun purists liked the addition, it didn’t work out well for the majority of the playerbase. It wasn’t brought back to either MWIII or BO6, but it seems to possibly make a return in MW4 after RealityUK on Twitter shared into on the weapons coming to Modern Warfare 4.
According to RealityUK; below is a shorthand summary of each weapon coming to MW4:
- Assault Rifles – 8
- SMGs – 7
- Shotguns – 3
- Pistols – 10
- LMGs – 6
- Snipers – 3
- Battle Rifles – 5
- Marksman Rifles – 3
- Launchers – 5
- Melee – 9
Some of these weapons are grouped with a weapon class but are more specials or similar items rather than actual create a class weapons. If you want a detailed list, below is a tweet thread from RealityUK that goes over the current codenames for the weapons.

NO MORE LAST GEN SUPPORT
Modern Warfare 4 is rumored to be the first “Next Gen” Call of Duty title since the release of the current generation (PS5 and Xbox Series) consoles. This means that PS4 and Xbox One support will seemingly end with the 2026 COD title.

Some of you may be relieved to hear this, as am I, but it’s worth noting that a good chunk of the players still use a PS4 or Xbox One console. However, as it was eventually going to happen, they will need to upgrade by 2026 to continue playing Call of Duty, or possibly other titles for that matter. The current iteration of consoles released in 2020, and it’s been underutilized. There has been talks about the next generation already, but would it be worth it by then? Maybe MW4 can help test the limits of the current consoles.
THE END
That is currently all there is to Modern Warfare 4. The game is nowhere close to being in the community’s hands, but this information is still interesting regardless. Are you excited for Modern Warfare 4? Below is a video that goes more in depth on this topic!
