Black Ops Zombies is set to be MASSIVE this year with an all new iteration of the mode. Battling the undead in the small town of Liberty Falls, or trying to escape the highly guarded Terminus Island, players are in for a treat. There is always the possibility of a classic style mode to return, as well as customizations made for the HUD to bring it as close to old zombies as possible. Here’s what you need to know regarding a potential classic style zombies return:
CLASSIC MODE RETURNING?
The Zombies community has been having quite the discussion lately, regarding a classic Zombies experience in Black Ops 6. While it’d be a welcome reintroduction, it’s not probable to happen. If it does, it probably won’t come on launch. It’ll more than likely be something introduced post launch, maybe Season 1 or 2 at the very earliest.
However, it could get complex in terms of what it takes away in order to be a classic mode. What could they actually remove to make the mode feel different to the Black Ops 6 core experience? Here a few KEY removals:
- ARMOR
- They could remove the armor system as a whole, & make it a 5 hit down with Juggernaut. Armor is so closely linked to Warzone, so to have it in zombies was quite the adjustment at first.
- LOAD-OUTS
- There’d certainly be disabled usage of Load-outs & you’d spawn with a base level pistol. That way, you’d feel the natural progression as you try to find & upgrade new weapons. This would definitely bring back the classic zombies style of gameplay.
- SALVAGE?
- Salvage could be removed & the mode would be a point based only system. The salvage system has played a major role in Zombies through recent entries, so removing it would also disrupt other systems in the game.
- KILLSTREAKS
- Killstreaks are also likely to get removed as they were introduced during the Warzone Era of Zombies. These are purchased through salvage.
- OTHER FEATURES INCLUDE:
- FIELD UPGRADES
- AMMO MOD SELECTION
- BLUEPRINTS
- WUNDERFIZZ & ARSENAL MACHINE & CRAFTING BENCH
THE PROBLEM
The more this “classic mode” is thought about, the more complicated it may seem. With work being focused on Black Ops 6 & the current systems, much focus probably wouldn’t have gone on this mode, if being developed at all.
Unless it’s being saved as a surprise, they’ve already revealed just about every major system & experience for Black Ops 6 (at-least Day One). Based on all those systems, it seems like the current iteration of Zombies is trying to be a hybrid of what worked so well in Black Ops 3, Black Ops 4, & even Cold War.
To walk back on that however, to present an experience similar to Black Ops 1 & Black Ops 2,; would be to basically go against what they’ve already revealed & marketed for Black Ops 6. This mode would more cater to the vocal minority that want a more simile & grounded mode, vs. the majority who’ll likely be excited to drop into this new iteration of Zombies in Black Ops 6.
This new hybrid Zombies is likely to appeal to casuals & hardcore players. Casuals with accessibility, & hardcores with harder quests, no Aetherium crystal upgrade system, etc. While a classic mode would be more than welcome, it also would possibly become a conflict of interest for the accessibility to new players coming from Warzone & MP. Players who may not know the mode too well, & won’t wanna jump into a harder version of a new mode for them.
HUD CUSTOMIZATION
As most are aware, the HUD presets in Multiplayer & Zombies will let you customize them to an extent. You won’t be allowed to fully rearrange the parts of the HUD. That’s been the understanding of how the presets will work, ever since the full reveal of Black Ops 6 a couple of months ago.
You’ll be able to change how things are laid out, but you won’t be able to pick up & move specific pieces of the HUD your liking. Most of the HUD options can be turned off in MP & Zombies, giving more of an immersive hardcore feeling. It’s believed that’s likely what the immersive preset is, though unfortunately, the preset was locked during the beta.
ZOMBIES HUD UPDATES?
There’s been complaints that Zombies in BO6 doesn’t have a good enough HUD. Others say it’s not a personalized enough HUD to make the mode stand out &/or give the mode that classic Zombies experience, like the games of old (BO1, BO2. BO3, even BO4).
All things considered with the controversial HUD we had in BO4 Zombies, it still stood out compared to MP or Blackout. Zombies this year does have a HUD available that could be possibly be used, & is more unique than the base HUD also used in MP & Warzone..
That would be the HUD you see when using the mutant injection, or become a mangler. Instead of the mangler icon, replace it with an operator icon instead. Maybe with the option to fully rearrange certain items, and possibly add blood splats or other elements, it’ll be closer to Zombifying the HUD.
