WHAT IS THE MW3 SHADOW SIEGE EVENT?
As we previously saw with Black Ops Cold War (2020) and Vanguard (2021), the new Call of Duty is being revealed through in game Warzone event, tasking players with a series of tasks before premiering the trailer live in game. The official description of Shadow Siege is as follows:
Drop into Call of Duty: Warzone to experience the worldwide reveal for Call of Duty 2023 in a limited-time event. Join the ranks of Shadow Company to take on Konni forces and secure the chemical weapon threat before it’s too late. Stay tuned to Call of Duty channels for more details about the upcoming reveal.
SHADOW SIEGE START AND END TIMES
The studio just confirmed that on Thursday, August 17th, double XP will be activated for Warzone at 9:30am PT (11:30am CT, 12:30pm ET) followed by the release of the Shadow Siege event just an hour later at 10:30am PT. A recent text message from the unknown caller (MW3 viral marketing) also lists the the playlist for Shadow Siege being available from 9:30am PT until 11:55pm PT, giving players just around twelve hours and twenty five minutes to witness the MW3 reveal in game.
The event is also linked as a DMZ one, according to the unknown caller messages, despite the blogpost labeling the event as a four player Warzone playlist and the ability to spawn in with your loadout. Although DMZ exists within Warzone, Shadow Siege may mark the first four player DMZ experience. The playlist for Shadow Siege is currently visible but locked at the Warzone menu.
ALL SHADOW SIEGE OBJECTIVES AND REWARDS
Activision confirmed in a recent blogpost that there will be one main objective in Shadow Siege, rewarding players with the MW3 reveal trailer, while additional side objectives will be available for players to get their hands on bonus rewards, such as a new base weapon. The base weapon is rumored to be the M13C assault rifle, as an in game bug previously linked the new Assault Rifle to Shadow Siege. Other rewards are rumored to include a vehicle skin, calling card, emblem, battlepass tokens and a weapon charm. This is the official statement regarding Shadow Siege objectives:
Join the ranks of Shadow Company, take on Konni forces, secure chemical weapons before it’s too late, and receive numerous rewards. Additionally expect to view the full reveal of Modern Warfare III. Complete additional objectives in Operation: Shadow Siege to claim further items, such as a new Base Weapon, all immediately available in Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare II . . . . . . and eventually Modern Warfare III thanks to Carry Forward
THE STORY IMPLICATIONS OF SHADOW SIEGE EXPLAINED
The Season 5 cinematic has Graves pointing out a Konni cargo ship off the coast of Al Mazrah, containing missiles that are set to target different points of interest. Recent DMZ intel confirms Konni is attempting to blow a hole in the secret bunker under Zaya Observatory, as inside lays a deadly gas weapon. In a Season 5 faction mission called “Missile Transports”, players are tasked with placing IR beacons on two of the missiles on the cargo ship, likely meaning only two are meant to go off in Shadow Siege.
A recent text from the unknown caller provided an image of the different targets that the missiles may be hitting during the Shadow Siege, even if it’s just two. It’ll be up to Task Force 141 and Shadow Company to secure sam sites to prevent the missile attacks, and invade the Konni occupied Zaya Observatory.
“This is an airborne to ground assault of the Konni-occupied Zaya Observatory.” — Commander Phillip Graves, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II
