Call of Duty has been a long running franchise, spanning over two decades. Over 21 releases with millions of players still playing today. Microsoft purchased Activision, & Call of Duty back in 2022, & has moved the franchise forward since then. However, fans of the older titles may have a reason to get excited about their favorite titles again. Today, we’re going over old COD titles addition to the Microsoft Store, how they could be coming to Game Pass, & possible DLC overhauls for them. Here’s what you need to know:
Microsoft Store Adds Old COD Titles

Over the last few weeks, Microsoft has seemingly added almost all the older Call of Duty titles to their store. Starting with COD 4: Modern Warfare & the games after, older Call of Duty titles have become available to purchase for players old & new to enjoy. Here’s a list of the COD entries that became available:
- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007)
- Call of Duty: World at War (2008)
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009)
- Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010)
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2011)
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (2012)
- Call of Duty: Ghosts (2013)
- Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (2015)
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 (2015)
- Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (2016)
- Call of Duty: WW2 (2017)
This provides players an additional way to launch these games over on PC. This introduces the game to Xbox players who may have never purchased these games on physical discs back in the day & moved over to PC. With Microsoft accounts, they can now launch these games on another platform other than Battlenet or Steam. Though, this does leave a question; What about Game Pass?
Game Pass Integration for Every COD
As it currently stands, only MW3 (2023) & Black Ops 6 are the only COD titles currently available on Game Pass. There also hasn’t been any announcement regarding the older titles coming to Game Pass yet. However, with these older titles appearing on the Microsoft Store, it’s more than likely that preparations are being made to add those titles to Xbox Game Pass. There are questions about this though. When will they be added to Game Pass? Will they all be added at the same time?

Call of Duty is on a much different structure/schedule now compared to how it used to be. It’s centered around a strict Seasonal structure, fully integrated with Warzone. So, we likely wouldn’t be seeing a Remaster or huge collection drop for the franchise. It would make more sense if they released all the older titles maybe, during a drought period between major content drops. Not so much right before a Season launches. Possibly during the Summer, they could drop.
It’s worth noting that they’ve been added to the Microsoft store & maybe we’re still many months away from seeing them on Game Pass.
DLC & Season Pass Overhaul
When these older titles inevitably become available on Game Pass, what does it mean for their DLC & Season Passes? They operated on an update structure in older Call of Duty entries. Currently, DLCs are still up to $15 & Season Passes are still full price on online stores that feature the old games. There’s likely a large number of players who’d like to check out older DLC maps for various COD titles, but don’t want to spend full price on them.

Compare that DLC structure to today’s content structure. Every single map is free in today’s ecosystem in Call of Duty, so people are probably less inclined to go back & purchase those DLCs. It’s to a point where when classic maps are reimagined in the modern day, it’s some players first time playing those maps. This can be because they didn’t get to try the maps in their prime, or they refuse to buy it at full price. That being said, it would be interesting to see how they’d pursue DLC going forward for those old releases.
Security Issues, Hackers, & Makeover
A major issue plaguing many of the older CODs is hackers. Obviously, the games unsupervised have led to hackers running amok all-over various Call of Duty Multiplayers. Would it be appealing to the Game Pass community to hop into these older games & experience hacked lobbies back-to-back to back on Multiplayer? Campaign would be just fine & Zombies probably wouldn’t have many issues, but Multiplayer is another beast.
It’s possible we’d see a big ban wave, hopefully to clean up those older installments so they’re at least playable again. Of course, it’d still be wise to proceed with caution. Obviously, there wouldn’t be cross-play. You’d really only be able to play through Xbox communities or PC, depending on which platform you’re on.
