Call of Duty Black Ops 6 released this past October & has already changed the COD landscape, alongside its’ Warzone integration. With that being said, information about the next Call of Duty (set to release this year) has already started to come out. We’re reportedly getting a futuristic Call of Duty: Black Ops game, a sequel to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 if you will. Today, we’re going over who’s likely developing that game, details on COD 2025, even part of the Black Ops 2 canon that was solved. Here’s what you need to know:
Who Is Developing COD 2025?
The question everyone is asking, who is leading this project? Clearly the project has been in development for years now, maybe 2 or more. Treyarch is the likely studio that’s been working on this Black Ops entry, alongside working on Black Ops 6. It wouldn’t make sense that they’d put on the project right after the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. If they had, that would mean there’d be just about 1 years’ worth of time developing BO7 before its’ release.
Multiple projects aren’t a new thing for Treyarch as it seems. While it’s known there was 4-year gap between Cold War & Black Ops 6, Treyarch didn’t have all 4 years purely focused for working on BO6. They had to work on several major projects in-between. Here’s a list of their recent escapades:

- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (2020)
- Seasons 1-6 of Cold War (2021)
- Vanguard: Zombies (2021)
- Vanguard: Ranked Play (2022)
- Cold War Year: 2 Updates (2022)
- Seasons 1-5 for Vanguard Zombies (2022)
- MW2 Ranked Play (2023)
- Warzone 2.0 Ranked Play (2023)
- Modern Warfare 3: Zombies (2023)
- Modern Warfare 3: Ranked Play (2024)
The concern remains if Treyarch will even have enough time to polish the game. Considering they’re always filling in for other studios & clutching up on games, it’d be nice to see Sledgehammer or Infinity Ward lend a hand back. Make the Black Ops 6 post-launch memorable. Raven does an excellent job leading the campaigns, while Sledgehammer pretty much set the standard for post-launch support for a COD title. So, for any of those studios to lend Treyarch a hand would probably be a massive help, especially on this new entry in the Black Ops franchise.
Secret Details on Black Ops 7 Revealed
Just before the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, a focus group was reportedly held in Los Angeles & information on the next Call of Duty: Black Ops was reportedly shared. A variety of topics were discussed on the gameplay features, multiplayer, where the campaign takes place, & even zombies. Here’s what’s been shared around regarding the next COD title:
Gameplay Features
It’s been reported that Omni-movement will be returning in this new Black Ops title, with some improvements & a returning gameplay feature. The ability to wall-jump is supposedly being added, to give you an advantage in your battles. New animations are also being crafted to make the experience even smoother than it is now. Human shields are also set to return, with the added ability of attaching grenades to those people. There’s even talk of throwing those bodies back at your enemies.

Campaign Timeframe
As far as the campaign goes, the focus will apparently be on the year 2035. It will follow the events of the original Black Ops 2 campaign that took place in 2025. It seems Informational Warfare will be the primary focus, & a large emphasis on Espionage.
Multiplayer
As it stands for multiplayer, additional classic maps & experiences are set to return on launch, including modes like uplink or gunfight. Perks are now supposedly being shared with what is to be believed a new networked perk mechanic. It may differ from the system we currently use in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Zombies
Black Ops 7 will be focused on Round-Based maps, similar to how it is now in Black Ops 6. However, dreams are big as it’s reported we’ll be seeing one of the largest round-based maps ever developed. There will be an easier way to get around as it’s also said we’ll have a transportation system similar to the bus on Tranzit. Now, either this large experience or another within BO7 will feature eight-player gameplay.
Grief is also a mode that’s been rumored for BO6, but the leak regarding it a while back might have been for BO7 instead. Finally, there’s mention of armor crafting, & hitting the mystery box or wall buys for new weapons, classic features.
Remastered Black Ops 2 Maps
Insider Gaming, along with some other news outlets did mention that Black Ops 7 is set to feature a ton of remastered maps from Black Ops 2. While we know Yemen currently sits inside the large Avalon Warzone space, what about a bunch of other fan favorite maps from BO2 that have never been remastered? Many maps have been reimagined from BO1, but what about BO2? Fans have been asking for a BO2 remaster for years now.
Though it’s not likely we ever see a faithful 1:1 remaster of BO2, we could see many of its’ maps remastered on the launch of Black Ops 7. Even if all the maps from BO2 may not be added day one, the most popular ones most definitely will make it. This would have to include an all-time favorite & staple in the Black Ops franchise, Nuketown 2025.
Treyarch Teased BO7 Early in BO6
The level 1,000 rewards inside Black Ops 6 are surely meant to be teasers for the next Black Ops game. Upon reaching these master rewards, you’ll unlock a new Operator, Agent Samuels. For those who don’t remember, Agent Samuels is a character from the BO2 campaign, though he didn’t play a large role. What are the chances that the level 1,000 reward is an operator from BO2’s campaign, & the reports are BO7’s campaign takes place following the events of BO2. He may even be an important character to this new campaign.

Now, you may be asking, why not just add David Mason as the level 1,000 reward instead? Maybe Treyarch was going for a more subtle hint towards a BO2 sequel. There’s reason to believe that David Mason may be a preorder bonus for BO7 however, & you may be able to use him in BO6. This would be similar to how Woods was a preorder bonus for BO6, though you could use him in MW3.
Canon Ending of BO2 Finally Solved?
If you read the bio on Agent Samuels operator, you may discover a huge reveal about how to futuristic side of the campaign plays out. It reads:
“Eric Samuels was part of President Bosworth’s Secret Service detail and was responsible for safely transporting her through Los Angeles during Menendez’s drone attacks in 2025 – a battle in which Samuels fought alongside, and earned the trust of _ experienced CIA agents like David Mason & Mike Harper.”
This bio reveals that Harper does survive through the campaign & is battling alongside Samuels & David in Los Angeles. This would also imply Farid dies, & in doing so, Karma dies as well. This allows Menendez’s virus to remain active & continue to cause damage. This new campaign in BO7 could fill a lot of gaps & explain what happens directly after the Battle of 2025.
