Modern Warfare 4 Reveal Event: Date, Content and Rumours (COD 2026)

It is nothing new in the Call of Duty community to already discuss the next installment in the franchise, and this year it is Infinity Ward’s turn to deliver.
When can we possibly expect a trailer for the game? What is leaked so far? We will cover everything you need to know below!

Leaks are still rumors, and games are always subject to change; the rumors we cover are not to be guaranteed in the final product, if at all!

Potential Modern Warfare 4 Reveal Trailer Soon?

Not too long ago, Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard, bringing major franchises like Diablo, World of Warcraft, and of course Call of Duty under its umbrella. Since Call of Duty joined the Xbox family, it was only a matter of time before it took center stage at the Xbox Games Showcase; something that finally happened in 2024 with the full reveal of Black Ops 6.
They followed that reveal up with a dedicated deep dive into the game its Campaign, Zombies and general gameplay, including the announcement of the game being available day one on the Game Pass service.
Fast forward a year to the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, it was Black Ops 7 its turn to get revealed, albeit in a smaller way by just showcasing a cinematic teaser announcement, with the full reveal given later that summer.

This year’s Call of Duty title, led by Infinity Ward, is also expected to be revealed in the same manner as the last two games: the Xbox Games Showcase event.
Although not officially confirmed yet, it would only make sense for this game to also follow the pattern of being at least teased in the showcase.
Not to mention the hints and teases given to the community, the recent Modern Warfare 2019 sale to be a prime example of it.
This year its Xbox Games Showcase event is scheduled for June 7, 2026 and will feature games developed by the Xbox Games studios, including the already confirmed Gears of War E-Day and hopefully other titles like Forza Horizon 6, Fable and Call of Duty.

NEW Modern Warfare 4 Leaks

Despite Call of Duty’s efforts of cracking down on known leakers within the community, a bunch of Call of Duty 2026 leaks already were posted.
This year’s Call of Duty is rumored to be Modern Warfare 4 (IV), and it being a full reset for the entire Call of Duty and Warzone cycle; meaning earned and/or purchased cosmetics and weapons from previous installments won’t carry over. A fresh, new start.
That is due to the new game being developed on a brand new version, incompatible with the older titles, of the IW game engine. It is also said that old-gen (Playstation 4, Xbox One) support will be dropped, meaning the game will only be available on current-gen hardware.

It is also rumored to continue the Modern Warfare reboot story, continuing from the questionable Modern Warfare 3 Campaign.
That includes a potential mission, or even entire setting, around the North and South Korea conflict, which would fall in line with the fact that missiles have been key story points in pretty much all Modern Warfare Campaigns so far.
Allegedly, Task Force 141 remnants are intertwined into a international military crisis involving missiles, resulting in missions taking place in Seoul-type environments, making it the perfect set-up for additional post-launch content for a third mode. Speaking of…

Is DMZ returning in Modern Warfare 4?

DMZ was first introduced in Modern Warfare II, being a free to play addition to the Warzone 2.0 content drop that game cycle.
Just like any other new game mode being introduced, it was both loved and hated by the community; but gladly had enough traction for it to be allegedly reintroduced into the upcoming Modern Warfare 4.

With it still being a rumor, DMZ returning would be a great win for the franchise and community and could easily tie into the storyline, bringing more missions post-launch set in the fictional conflict to keep both the ever evolving story and gameplay content fresh and interesting. Something that also was the case in Modern Warfare II, albeit in smaller form due to it being the first test iteration of the mode.
As we still have no official confirmation, nor even a reveal of the game in the first place, it is still unknown if DMZ would be a main title game mode or a Warzone game mode.
The latter making the most sense, just like it was in Modern Warfare II’s life cycle, but the Spec Ops mode could also make its return as official third main game mode. Hopefully, with just more content and depth compared to the Modern Warfare 2019 reboot its take on the mode.

What about Multiplayer in Modern Warfare 4?

Multiplayer remains the main selling point of a Call of Duty game nowadays, making leaks and rumors surrounding the mode very likely.
Several leaks were already posted on socials, which stirred up some community feedback as it involved controversial gameplay decisions.
Decisions such as the return of the weapon platforms system like Modern Warfare II had, fewer attachments that this time around matter more to your weapon its performance, more identity per weapon class to avoid every weapon feeling similar and even the movement.

Said rumors mentioned that Infinity Ward is reverting back to a updated version of the movement system from Modern Warfare II; replacing the current fast-paced omnimovement, which a part of the community has been complaining about ever since it was introduced in Black Ops 6.
It is also rumored that previous community feedback, such as the hate of the sluggish and fast-paced movement and slow ADS (Aim Down Sights) speed, influenced decisions. Then again, Infinity Ward is known to be stubborn with their recent titles, but Call of Duty is in need of a win this year; time will only tell.
