Grand Theft Auto 6 is the most anticipated game of this year if not decade, and it took many by surprise when Netflix announced that a documentary about the game is releasing on the 27th of August on the platform.
It will be a 6 hour exclusive for Netflix users, after that timespan the entire documentary will be available to watch for free on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel.
But for those not wanting to get a Netflix subscription, we got you covered!
Could GTA 6 Get a Gameplay Deep Dive?
Rockstar has a history of following major trailer releases with more substantial gameplay footage. Red Dead Redemption 1, for example, had a gameplay segment shown on FOX TV, while both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 received dedicated gameplay deep dives on YouTube following their second trailers.
With GTA 6 already generating unprecedented attention, Rockstar could follow a similar promotional strategy. While there is no confirmation that a gameplay showcase is planned, the studio’s previous marketing campaigns provide a reasonable precedent.
If Rockstar does decide to release a dedicated gameplay video, it could potentially be a fairly substantial showcase. Based on the length and scope of previous Rockstar gameplay presentations, 7–15 minutes of GTA 6 gameplay would be a realistic expectation. Such a video could give players a deeper look at Vice City, the game’s world, missions, driving, combat, NPCs and the interactions between Jason and Lucia.
Of course, this remains speculation until Rockstar officially announces anything. However, if the company follows the pattern established by GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, a gameplay deep dive could be one of the next major pieces of GTA 6 footage fans receive after the trailers.
Do You Need Netflix to Watch the GTA 6 Extended Look?
Netflix subscribers will get early access to the GTA 6 extended look on August 27, 2026, with the presentation premiering on Netflix at 3 PM ET. However, a Netflix subscription will not be required to watch it eventually.
Rockstar has confirmed that the extended look will be released for everyone on its official YouTube channel and the GTA 6 website at 9 PM ET, six hours after its Netflix premiere.
Netflix currently offers plans starting at $8.99 per month in the US, but there is no confirmed GTA 6-specific free trial or promotion. While some users have reported being offered Netflix trials in certain markets, availability can vary by country and account, so fans should not rely on a free trial to watch the extended look early.
For viewers who don’t have Netflix, the simplest option is to wait until 9 PM ET, when the extended look will be available to watch for free on Rockstar’s official YouTube channel and website.
This also means fans can expect plenty of reaction content once the footage goes public. Creators will likely livestream their reactions, upload reaction videos and publish detailed breakdowns of the gameplay shortly after the YouTube release.
