Today, Call of Duty has blessed the community with all-new screenshots of remastered MW2 (2009) maps that are ALL coming to MW3 Multiplayer at launch! These screenshots look GREAT, and from the small amount of gameplay we’ve seen, it looks like they’re going to feel great to be in! Typically, when maps get remastered for the new titles, they change things and make the maps different than their originals, but Sledgehammer has really driven it forward that they wanted to keep everything the same and adapt it to the new modern-engine and gameplay! They also wanted to add extra details to make the maps look like they’ve gotten a fresh new coat.
NEW SCREENSHOTS

The iconic Terminal is back in all its glory. As mentioned before, they wanted to keep the maps the same, but add a few details to it to make it feel new. Here, we can get a good idea on what that means.
Firstly, the color schemes are different in the interior as well as the plane you can enter (it’s now blue opposed to it’s original white)! Secondly, the name of the airport Terminal is in is now printed onto the window at the entrance (for those that didn’t know, in the original MW2 (2009) it was called “Zakahev International Airport”)!

Scrapyard has returned. This map was last seen in MW2019 as a Multiplayer map AND as part of the Warzone map Verdansk, which also makes a return in the campaign of MW3! This map is a personal favorite of mine.

Afghan is back, and it looks more fiery than ever!
This map, of course, is featured in MW2 (2022) has part of a Ground War map and the Warzone map Al Mazrah, but this version is more faithful and is bound to add some new fidelity to the map with all new colors and fire effects!
Afghan now has better visibility, allowing you to kill players from new distances.

Hello Quarry, it’s nice to see you again.
This map is, of course, in Warzone’s Al Mazrah map, but this is the FULL version of the original map. I can’t wait to get my hands on this map with the new climbing mechanics.

The infamous Rust… in all its glory.
This map is ICONIC! I’d argue it’s more iconic than Nuketown or Shipment. This time it’s got new details and ambiance. Can I have this now please and thanks? This map was in MW2 (2022) in a Ground War map. It may not have been the entirety of Rust, but it was there.
The pipe that campers could hide in the back of the map with has been replaced with a small building, allowing more open combat all-around.

Estate seems like a nice place to live. Makarov chose a peaceful little home.
The fidelity in this map looks insane. It’s going to look so vibrant, detailed, and fun to play in. So many memories from this map, like playing special ops and hearing the Jugg music play and all your friends being terrified as it emerges from the basement. Good times; just keep Ghost and Shepherd away from here at all costs…
There’s also now an expanded water area in the back, allowing operators to have underwater fights if they wish.

When you think of the original MW2 (2009), you will most definitely think of Favela.
Favela was last seen in Call of Duty: Ghosts (2013), but is now back with a few more lighting improvements, making operators easier to see all-around.

Get ready for an Invasion *ba dum tiss*.
Invasion may not be as memorable as a handful of these maps, but it still deserves its spotlight.

Karachi is super underrated and no it’s not up for debate.
Karachi’s lighting seems to have gotten an overhaul, making this atmosphere one of my favorites so far!

My memory of this map seems to be a bit Rundown *ba dum tiss*.
Seriously though, this map didn’t appear as often for me as others, but it’s a beauty and unique. I can’t wait to see the fidelity changes made to it!

Skidrow is just so cool.
So many memories of this map. Not just for me, but plenty of others. The way you’re encased by buildings in the middle gives it a different feeling than most maps.
The bookstore is now a movie shop and the ceiling has been fixed. The lighting was fixed throughout the map too, making it easier to see operators throughout.

This map went off “derail”s… I’m not going to cue a drum sound… that was bad.
Definitely a longshot map at heart. If there’s ever anymore longshot kills challenges for camos, then you’ll want to vote for this map. My brother loved using the EBR on this map back in the day; I wonder if he’ll do it again for old times sake.

Grassy, classic, and beautiful.
Wasteland is such a memorable map and we can’t wait to hide with our Ghillie Suits and storm the tunnel.

The sounds of rain, bullets, and trash-talk… Soothing.
Underpass is aesthetically pleasing to look at. I wonder if the sounds got improved on this map too along with fidelity.

Hop in boys, we’re going subbing!
Sub base is engraved in many of our heads, especially considering you played as the Navy Seals on this map back in 2009. I wonder if there’s any Black Ops Cold War references this time around…

The moment you’ve all been waiting for… a faithful Highrise remaster.
This map was in Warzone’s Al Mazrah as a POI, but this time it’s not even in Al Mazrah. Sledgehammer wanted to build it from the ground up (funny because it’s a building), and faithfully give it all of its original parts back. With the new movement and climbing mechanics, you can bet getting up to the roof will be a bit easier.
The office layout is now owned by a new company. There’s arcade machines, movie posters, and video game consoles that showcase all the fun nerd things we all love.
20 MAPS ON LAUNCH – 6 MORE COMING LATER
All 16 MW2 (2009) maps, 3 large Battle Maps, and 1 War Map coming at launch. That’s a lot of playgrounds to play in off the bat. Activision wasn’t done though, for they announced 6 MORE maps are coming in the first 2 seasons of MW3!
“Expect the flow of free post launch content including Core 6v6 Maps and additional Multiplayer content to continue after launch. As previously stated, we’ll have over 12 all-new Core 6v6 Maps in our seasons, with three all-new 6v6 maps hitting in Season 01 and three all-new 6v6 maps hitting in Season 02, along with additional maps and modes throughout future seasons.”
Call of Duty Blog
There’s over 12 NEW maps coming throughout MW3’s lifecycle! That’s an insane amount, and we can’t wait to try them all!
