MODERN WARFARE 2 SEASON 5 RELOADED CONTENT, START TIMES & MORE

Season 5 Reloaded of Modern Warfare 2 & Warzone begins on August 30th, at 9am PT, 11am CT, 12pm EST. It’s confirmed to include fan favorite character ‘Mace’ as well as celebrity operator 21 Savage. The mid season 5 update for Modern Warfare II is also adding a new Resurgence map, on top of a popular request for Multiplayer. Here’s a collection of confirmed and rumored updates for each mode in MW2 Season 5 Reloaded.

Multiplayer Content

Per the Season 5 roadmap, only one more Multiplayer map is releasing for 6v6. The map is named DRC – Zone 1 but is NOT a direct 1:1 port from Building 21. The map is described to take place on the other side of the exclusion zone we see in DMZ. According to the Season 5 blogpost, players can find the research, development and laboratory offices in this new fast paced version of Building 21. DRC- Zone 1 is reportedly located around the visitor center, which isn’t accessible in DMZ.

3 New Modes For MWII

Infinity Ward previously confirmed that Gunfight Snipers, Armored Gunfight and Faceoff 4v4 will be released throughout the duration of Season 5 Reloaded. It’s unclear which of these modes is releasing first, but fans of Gunfight will be pleased to see even more variants to the 2v2 action. Gunfight snipers was previously featured in MW19 and Cold War, but the ability to equip Armor plates in the other variant mode will be quite the spin. Faceoff 3v3 was previously added to Multiplayer but has since been removed and was never mentioned again

Warzone Content

To everyone’s surprise, a new Resurgence map is set to arrive with the mid season 5 update. The new map is known as Fort, and is an expanded version of Al Bagra Fortress from Al Mazrah, converted into a Resurgence experience. It’s been confirmed the map will be added to the Resurgence Rotation timer alongside Ashika Island and Vondel, but it’s unclear how this map will affect the timer itself. Currently, Ashika and Vondel rotate every 15 minutes for a different squad size each week, while other squad sizes are still available for both map’s individual playlists. Armored Royale, a mode from Warzone 1, is also returning following the addition of the MRAP vehicle

Al Mazrah POI Updates

Following the Modern Warfare 3 Shadow Siege event, an Easter Egg was added to normal Battle Royale, allowing players to launch the same set of Konni Missiles to destroy Zaya Observatory. Doing so grants players access to the secret chemical bunker featuring dozens of legendary crates and additional gameplay opportunities. It’s likely that this bunker will remain open permanently with the next title update or Season 6, while we recently reported on mysterious loading screens that popped up, depicting unannounced Zaya Observatory changes.

50 Years of Hip Hop Expansion

Season 5 featured a crossover with several icons such as Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj and 21 Savage, but the event may not be over yet. Recent rumors have suggested that Flava Flav themed blueprints are set to arrive, while Lil Jon may also become an operator. Three free war tracks also released featuring over 16 hip hop songs from the 80s – 00s, so it’s possible there’s even more planned to celebrate 50 years of greatness. Modern Warfare 2 has certainly upped the amount of content a crossover adds to the game, in comparison to just one or two bundles with a challenge event that we’ve seen in previous years.

The Crossover That No One Expected

With the initial marketing for Season 5 came an accidental slip up from Playstation themselves, as Sony leaked out a Lara Croft operator bundle for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone. It’s unlikely that the operator will be Playstation exclusive, as previous entries in the Tomb Raider series were released on all platforms. The addition of Lara Croft would potentially mark the sixth piece of crossover content for Season 5, which represents the most amount of licensed content we’ve seen in a single Call of Duty season.

New Camo & Vehicle Challenge Event(s)

The Season 5 blogpost confirmed that another series of challenges are set to arrive in the events tab later this summer. While it’s unknown what universal camo we’ll be able to unlock, it’s possible that the Task Force 141 polished camo, previously seen in the Faction Showdown event, will receive a set of unlock requirements during reloaded. The Faction Showdown event allowed fans to unlock a bonus animated camo, operator skin and battle token tier skip for the winning faction. Shadow Company came out on top, which left the Task Force 141 rewards up in the air. A series of vehicle based challenges were also announced, which will likely be added to Warzone or Ground War.

New Weapons & Classified Battlepass Sector

Three new weapons were announced for Season 5 Reloaded, including the Staccato 2011 pistol which you can see in the carry forward image for Modern Warfare 3, as well as an unknown SMG which fans speculate to be the MP5SD, a variant of the Lachmann already in the game. A pickaxe melee weapon was also confirmed, which has an unknown unlock challenge. As we saw with Season 4 Reloaded, a classified sector in the battlepass is set to open which features four challenges granting different cosmetics, then a HVT sector with an additional challenge to unlock a new base weapon. One of the weapons listed above is bound to be tied to the classified battlepass sector.

DMZ & It’s Mysterious Future

DMZ received some healthy updates at the beginning of Season 5, including the Shadow Company faction with a series of challenges and unlocks. The new faction only released with two tiers, meaning the other three are either being added with Season 5 Reloaded or Season 6. While a future for DMZ with Modern Warfare 3 is uncertain, it’s likely that Infinity Ward releases some major updates for the mode as a sendoff for Season 6. One final exclusion zone, new weapon cases or even a weapon mod are in the realm of possibility for a future title update. In case you missed these updates because of the MW3 marketing, DMZ Season 5 added the following:

  • MRAP Vehicle Keys
  • Active Combat Zones
  • Disguise Items
  • Secret Scavenger Buy Station
  • Updated Loot Drop From Scavenger
  • Scuba Gas Mask
  • Self Revive Box
  • Battlerage Self Revive
