Call of Duty has confirmed the return of DMZ as a premium launch mode in Modern Warfare 4. Infinity Ward kept the original DMZ mode in BETA and ended support for the mode back in 2023. The new MW4 DMZ mode is officially getting unveiled on Sunday, June 7th. Here are the first details on Modern Warfare 4 DMZ, launch on October 23rd.
DMZ 2.0 is NOT free to play
Back during Modern Warfare II, DMZ was a free to play experience through Warzone 2.0 and never required a game purchase to access. Since that was the case, players weren’t able to play the DMZ Beta until Season 1 of MW2. Beginning at the launch of MW4, players can jump into Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ.
It’s likely that DMZ free trials will release seasonally, as they have for BO7’s extraction mode ‘Endgame’ and always happen for Multiplayer.
DMZ replaces Spec Ops
For the first time since Infinite Warfare (2017), the latest Infinity Ward title will not release with a spec ops mode. Instead, DMZ is the third mode on disc, taking the place Zombies usually would in a Black Ops game. Previously, Infnity Ward was spread a little thin while supporting MW2 multiplayer, warzone, DMZ and Spec Ops Raid missions.
First Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Details
While the embargo hasn’t lifted for the next iteration of DMZ, the Call of Duty PR team released the following statement:
“DMZ is the definitive Call of Duty extraction experience, a living combat sandbox where every deployment is a
new story. Deploy solo or with a squad into a volatile conflict zone as an off-the-books asset tasked with
recovering advanced military technology left in the wake of war. The conditions in the exclusion zone are
always shifting, with changing weather, dynamic military objectives, and hostile forces moving throughout the
zone.Loot, fight, negotiate, betray, and extract with whatever you can carry. The harder you push, the harder the
world pushes back. Every run is a risk, every encounter is a choice, and no two deployments play out the
same way.”
