Splitgate 2 Presentation at Summer Game Fest

Today Splitgate developer Ian Proulx took the stage at Summer Games Fest alongside Geoff to announce the portal shooters newest endeavor: Battle Royale. Splitgate started off, and up till today was primarily a unique Halo esque shooter where it’s defining feature is that you can link two areas of the map together ala Portal of Valve fame.

Today the game made headlines by completely shadow dropping a brand new battle royale experience out of nowhere at Summer Games Fest 2025 with a gameplay trailer.

Splitgate 2 Controversy following Battle Royale Announcement

During the announcement 1047 Games CEO Ian Proulx took stage alongside Summer Games Fest host Geoff Keighley to introduce the new mode, and did so in a fashion which elicited much crowd reaction. Sporting a black “Make FPS Great Again” hat, Ian said plainly: “I grew up playing Halo, and I’m tired of playing the same Call of Duty every year. And I wish we could have Titanfall 3” A sentiment that resonated with the crowd due to the unusual boldness of the statement towards other game studios at the games event.

This sparked an entire new controversy online with Splitgate 2, as fans we’re quick to criticize 1047 Games for trying to be different than other AAA FPS Publishers while doing similar business practices as them. The worst of which, was an $80 USD ‘Nano Swarm’ Bundle (discounted from $145 USD). This spread quickly throughout social platforms like on X, where numerous users we’re even calling out the hypocrisy of bringing up Call of Duty, while having just as aggressive MTX pricing.

Luckily, due to many players bringing this up on Social Media, an official statement was released by 1047 Games’ CEO Ian Proulx a day later. Stating that “Actions speak louder than words,” Splitgate is reducing the price of said bundle down to $40 USD. 1047 Games is clearly committed to working with fans instead of against them, as shown with the price reduction, and will use player feedback as a way to create the best FPS game they can make.

In any case despite the shade, as of right now the servers are live and people seem to be enjoying the latest free to play Battle Royale on the market. For more information on Splitgate as it comes out stay tuned to Detonated!
