TRANZIT EARLY CONCEPT
Tranzit is a map that’s precious within the zombies community; you either hate the map, or love it dearly, but most people have memories relating to that map.
In case you’ve never played Tranzit, the map is a huge circle that can either be traversed with a bus driven by a robot named TEDD, or you can go on foot. However, going on foot has it’s dangers due to the dense fog, lava pools, zombies, and the denizens which will attach to your head and slow you down. Set in 2025 after the events of Moon in Black Ops 1, you follow four characters: Misty, Marlton, Stuhlinger, and Russman as the crew tries to survive a ravaged Earth while being persuaded by the Aetherial Powers of Ludvig Maxis and Edward Richtofen. Got the gist? Good, now let’s discuss what Tranzit was conceptualized to be.
Originally, the bus itself was going to be much more complicated:
- The bus would break down every so often and would require the player(s) to repair it as super sprinter denizens and hellhounds would attack in a raid.
- The bus would need to be refilled with gas at a gas station.
- The bus would have armor and turrets.
On top of these changes to the bus itself, the utilization of the bus would be necessary for the many stops of Tranzit. For example: Players would need to stop at the Farm to gather food and ammo. This made BO2 Zombies a survival game similar to that of Green Hell or The Forest, but with a bus. The boss of the map, the Avogadro, would’ve had an entire fight dedicated to it. As soon as the power was turned on, you would need to rush back to the bus to escape before the Avogadro would kill you. The bus would then be the base for the boss fight itself, utilizing all of the components you had required previously.
THE ORIGINAL STORYLINE
The story of Black Ops 2 was going to be set in a more far distant future. While the story takes place primarily in 2025, Black Ops 2 Zombies was set to take place 100 years after the events of Moon at roughly the year 2112. Maxis would need the help from the new crew which consisted of a fake spy, electrical engineer, farmer girl, and a conspiracy theorist, enable to rebuild his consciousness. Meanwhile, in the Aether, Richtofen is fighting Maxis over a substance called the “Vril”.
During the DLC cycle, the crew would help rebuild Maxis while Richtofen would offer to help the crew in an effort for him to escape the Aether. The reasoning for Richtofen’s exfil is due to there being a dangerous force within the Aether that scares him, allowing the crew to ultimately choose which character to side with in the final DLC.
As for Origins, the original crew for that map was aimed to be the fathers of the infamous Primis crew we all know and love, potentially keeping the older Ultimus forms as the only versions of those characters.
EARLY CONCEPTS FOR BURIED
For those of you that haven’t played Buried, the map starts off above ground and eventually leads into an underground buried western town that has shops, a jail with a giant, witches, and a massive maze.
Buried was almost an entirely different setting. Originally, the map would’ve been inside a city with an underground subway that housed a subway car players could use to transport players. Inside the map would’ve been a main hub, an intersection, and a train yard. Ways in development, the team decided to start the players in an underground 18th century town and have them climb into the city.
