Season 3 of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is right around the corner (April 3rd), & with it comes DLC 3 for BO6 Zombies ‘Shattered Veil’! Players will soon have their hands on the next installment of the Dark Aether story, discovering the secrets of what lies within the Estate’s walls. Today however, we’re going to go over every teaser Treyarch has released for ‘Shattered Veil’, as well as their story implications. Here’s what you need to know:
‘Shattered Veil’ Reveal
Long referred to as ‘The Mansion’, ‘Shattered Veil’ is set in West Virginia, not too far away from Liberty Falls. The next location on Requiems’ radar as they attempt to stop Richtofen from achieving his goals. Treyarch revealed our first official look at the map through a post on Twitter.
From the looks of it, the map seems like it could be pretty big, possibly conflicting with reports that it’d be a smaller map like ‘The Tomb’.
Comparisons have been made to ‘The Rook’ from BO6s Campaign, as well as ‘Dead of the Night’ from BO4. The secrets we may find here just might as the name implies, ‘shatter the veil’ of what Requiem, specifically Weaver, understands about this whole situation.
All Teasers Explained
Now we get into the various teasers we’ve been given over the last week & a half. There’s quite a bit to unpack, so strap yourselves in as we delve into what each teaser shows, the story implications, & what could come of it:
Teaser 1
The first teaser Treyarch gave us is a front facing shot of the Mansion itself. Our first official look at the map. The teasers caption reading: “Personal log. Edward Richtofen recording…”. This should be leading to more Richtofen intel, as well as more of a stronger presence of the man himself in this new BO6 Zombies Entry.
Teaser 2
The second teaser we get takes place in the ‘Banquet Hall’ of the Mansion. The caption reading: “However ludicrous this idea may have seemed to my younger self, at this point, I feel further research is warranted…”. This teaser could be a hint towards potential time travel, which we could see at the end of DLC 3, or the beginning of DLC 4 of BO6 Zombies.
Something worth noting is within this teaser of the ‘Banquet Hall’ is a painting framed on the wall. Who is the individual in the painting? It’s believed to be Josiah Shem, an individual who’s been mentioned quite a lot in recent intel. Josiah was part of the occult, & the one who built the Mansion itself along with his flock of followers.
Shem is believed to have taken a part of a massive sacrifice along with the rest of the occult. This sacrifice possibly breached an opening into the Dark Aether. Potentially they could’ve also weakened the veil between the real world & the Dark Aether.
A fascinating observation from painting is the amulet the character seems to have around his neck. It looks exactly like the amulets that ‘The Order’ occult from the Chaos Story in BO4 wears. The man in the painting also fashions very similar robes to what ‘The Order’ occult wears as well.
If Josiah was part of ‘The Order’ & went ahead to build the mansion, then it ties everything happening in BO6 Zombies back to the Original Chaos Story. It’s been teased a few times, but hopefully DLC 3 provides a major event that solidifies the connection even harder.
Teaser 3
The third teaser presented to us takes place in the Grand Foyer of the Mansion. The caption for this teaser reads: “I will lead this endeavor personally, enlisting only trusted associates to ensure the program does not… spiral out of control.” Not too much narrative-wise is hinted at in this teaser.
However, we can see the Juggernog machine located over in far left corner of the room. What is a major topic of speculation is the T-Rex skeleton in the room. Is there any kind of interaction with it? Maybe a trap? Or possibly a mini boss fight before reaching the final boss of the level?
Teaser 4
Teaser #4 gives us our first HD look at S.A.M., aside from the Liberty Falls intro. A detail to take interest in is that the aura that surrounds the S.A.M AI, is pretty similar to the aura trapped within the vials back in the MWZ intro cinematic. This could lead to a big connection between the 2 games.
To add to that point, we could also see this map tie in with Ava Jensen. As during the final MWZ cutscene, she was pulled through a mirror, & taken to what appears to be this exact same mansion by who we’re assuming is a Shadow-Smith.
We’re more than likely going to fight the S.A.M AI at the end of ‘Shattered Veil’. With the potential threat of the Forsaken breaking through his containment, Requiem might only be digging a deeper hole for themselves.
It’s very important to remember, that the S.A.M AI module is possibly powered by the ‘Forsaken Containment Chamber’. Zykov/The Forsaken was not killed, but only contained within the sphere. So surely nothing bad could come of one of THE most dangerous beings in existence becoming active again, right?
Teaser 5
The fifth & final teaser (so far) shows a drawing of what appears to be Richtofens’ family. Now it can be assumed it was drawn by Richtofens son. This comes with an issue though. The mom & son appear to be on fire in the drawing, so when was this drawing made?
It could’ve been made by the son before their deaths, as he potentially saw the future. Maybe someone manipulated the drawing after their deaths, or it was created long after their deaths altogether.
The caption reads: “I think there may be something more significant about this house. Something beyond even my understanding. Perhaps; even beyond my fears.” This is more than likely a statement from Richtofen, as he fears the mansion may be cursed.
This could be in part to the mansion being located in a particular spot, where Richtofen wanted to build his lab on top of. Maybe this is because of the connections between the builder (Josiah Shem), ‘The Order’ occult, & the potential tear into the Dark Aether.
Why Here?
Back in The Tombs outro cutscene, it’s mentioned that to access the Sentinel Artifact, or atleast for Richtofen to access it, he’ll require a material called ‘Tempest’. Tempest has been apparently harvested within the mansion, which likely S.A.M will also try & use to power the Sentinel Artifact.
We’re likely to see a power struggle take place in ‘Shattered Veil’ between Richtofen & S.A.M as they’re operating on their own agendas. Richtofen trying to bring back his family, while S.A.M possibly will try to form a physical body for itself. Both require the Sentinel Artifact to complete their goals.
Perhaps we’ll be tricked by S.A.M to activate the Sentinel Artifact for her, believing we’re rescuing Maxis. We’ll have to wait & see what’s in store regarding S.A.Ms intentions, & how they conflict with ours.
