Here’s Everything Transferring From MW2 to MW3

For the first time ever, players can transfer over a library of content from the previous title into the next one.

A Big Time FIRST For The Call of Duty Franchise

Modern Warfare 3 is set to launch on November 10, 2023. In recent years, players were able to use various content from Modern Warfare 2019, Black Ops Cold War & Vanguard within Warzone (2020), but were limited from using said content within other title’s multiplayers. The content ranged from operator skins, weapons and blueprints, which were fully customizable on any Warzone battle royale map. Activision recently confirmed that for the first time, players will be able to carry forward various content from Modern Warfare 2 (2022) into COD 2023.

Operators, Weapons & Bundles

It’s unclear if all Modern Warfare 2 (2022) content is locked behind ownership of the game, or if any of that content is unlockable just through COD 2023, but it’s reassuring for fans to know that their weapon progression, camo grinding & microtransactions weren’t just for the last Call of Duty. It begs the question what the file size of Modern Warfare 3 (2023) will be considering all of the content carrying forward, as well as the additional content the game will get post launch. Fans have speculated if COD 2023 bundles will also contain content for items that are only usable if the player owns Modern Warfare 2. Imagine exfiling in DMZ with a MW2 weapon, and being able to use that weapon in MW3 multiplayer.

Maps and Modes Reportedly Transferring Over

An earlier report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier suggested that COD 2023 was originally a year 2 expansion for Modern Warfare 2, which later evolved into a full fledged title following Vanguard’s underperformance in 2021. The report mentioned that maps and modes from the previous title would apparently be returning in Modern Warfare 3, but that the plans are subject to change. Returning modes are a given considering many COD installments feature the same ones, but maps are a different story. It’s possible the remastered maps in MW2 such as Shipment, Shoothouse, Dome & Showdown may return with a fresh coat of pain, or maybe maps transferring was apart of a scrapped plan if more 2009 maps had released over the last year. Jason Schreier recently tweeted that “some” maps may in fact be transferring into Modern Warfare 3.
