The Haunting Event returns in Modern Warfare 2! This time, The Haunting Event brings more horrific content than ever in MW2. Modern Warfare II’s 6th & Final Season brings us the best Haunting Event so far! Are you ready for The Haunting Event in MWII? Season 6 of MW2 starts on September 27th at 12PM EST. Here’s what you need to know:
After 2 years, The Haunting Event is back, and it’s brought more supernatural beings with it.
“Prepare for frightening thrills, the shambling undead, squad hunts to take down grotesque monsters, and those infamous jump-scares as The Haunting returns to Call of Duty®! The Hellmouth has opened, spilling unearthly creatures from the underworld, and a creeping terror is slowly swallowing all souls as it infects the entirety of Al Mazrah, reaching the bloodred canals of Vondel, and beyond!”

There’s a lot to unpack, so strap in and prepare yourselves.
THE HAUNTING LORE
This year, The Haunting Event’s lore is awesome, and doesn’t need to logically fit into MW’s or Warzone’s canon. Imagine this season as a “just-for-fun” season!
There’s a group called the Dark Ritual Operators (who have been released as bundles since MW2’s beginning) who have opened a Hellmouth hole in Al Mazrah, and have released tons of supernatural horrors from the depths of the underworld. Zombies, Ghosts, and other horrific beings have been released from their hellish prison; ready to unleash evil and death upon those of the living mortal realm. The evil dead (pun intended) aren’t the only things released from the Hellmouth however; the hellacious anti-hero Spawn is joining the mortal realm in an effort to close the Hellmouth and return everything supernatural with it!
Spawn won’t be alone in his efforts for he will be joined by many other special operators to aid him in his efforts. Ash Williams from Evil Dead 2, Alucard from Hellsing, Lilith and Inarius from Diablo 4, and Skeletor from Masters of the Universe will be coming as bundles during The Haunting! There will also be a DOOM chainsaw you can use to defeat the supernatural forces at play!
WARZONE – OPERATION: NIGHTMARE & VONDEAD
New threats arise in the Warzone, along with some returning forces that were believed to be destroyed years ago… Welcome to Operation: Nightmare.
OPERATION: NIGHTMARE
Al Mazrah’s greatest threat lurks in the pinnacle of the night. Around every corner, every shadow, and every enemy awaits an undead horror waiting to drag you down below and feast on your soul. Unless you and your team can stop the incursion…
There are now eldritch hotspots around the map that you will need to investigate while avoiding supernatural entities that seek to take you out. Eliminate the “Most Wanted” target at the hot spots and there may be hope for Al Mazrah.
For those interested in a reward; a bounty has been issued to those willing to venture into the darkest parts of Al Mazrah and eliminate any supernatural threat to the mortal world. There’s an ancient tomb that’s been unearthed of which holds an entity known as “The Pharaoh” whose info is REDACTED. Be on the lookout for mysterious orbs that have been reported throughout Al Mazrah along with other REDACTED spectral forces that aim to devour our realm as we know it.
There are also mysterious Altairs that are appearing about; take them out if you can, but be careful for it’s being rumored that a demon protects these Altairs. We are seeing these reports venture out to Vondel, so stop the incursion and make your way there quickly.
ZOMBIE ROYALE IS BACK
The popular mode that led to the infamous Nuking of Verdansk back in 2021 is making a return! There is no nuke this time (at least, that we know of), but the thrills of playing as a Zombie have returned! Zombie Royale will be a limited-time mode for both Al Mazrah and Vondel that will appear during the mid-season!
The gulag is now closed. Upon death, operators will instead reanimate as the undead with new abilities and a chance at resurrection. Don’t go into the graveyards alone, the dead are around every corner, so make sure to have a friend or 2 with you. As the match comes to a close; every operator spectating will be brought back to the afterlife as a Zombie in an effort to slay the living once more! Think of it like a jailbreak event, but with a necromancy twist!
WELCOME TO “VONDEAD”
Vondel gets a makeover and is now Vondead! The Hellmouth has caused issues for the city of Vondel; a sorceress has cursed the city, causing a blood moon to ominously hang over the city, the canals now flow with blood, and the undead are now released upon the land.
Vondead is on lockdown. The Lockdown LTM returns, but this time, it’s under a dark and moonlit Vondel. Make sure to hone in your skills before tackling the source of the incursion…
The source of this magic comes from Vondead’s graveyard. You should infiltrate and decommission the incursion, but be warned, for every team who has entered the graveyard has disappeared from “The Butcher”. It could be lurking around the crypts, waiting for you to enter it’s alluring domain in search for the Altair, stalking you and your team, hungry for your blood and your souls. Defeat the demon, reap it’s rewards, and take care of the Altair; stay cautious of The Graveyard of the Witch.
There are more hidden activities and rewards hidden around Vondead, so make sure you look around every crack, crevasse, and corpse you see…
SOUL CAPTURE & EQUIPMENT
There will be a new Soul Capture Event. When you rack up kills, you can earn souls that can be used to redeem rewards after each session. More details to come on this before Season 6’s launch!
There’s now Haunted Boxes scattered around that leave tons of good loot, but be careful when opening them, for a living maw possesses the boxes. These boxes can be found from Zombies of which will occasionally drop them.
The Bloodseeker Grenade is shaped like a vampire bat and is formed from an unknown evil. The goal of this grenade is to attach to enemies and highlight them for easy tracking during the night, however, the grenades do not work against those who dwell in the water.
Your Loadouts will also be possessed with the Sound Veil Scream which is a change to the Suppression Mine that makes the audio screams of the dead, and the Decoy Grenade that adds monstrous sounds to the noise.
Lastly, be careful of looting everything you sere, for there will be an occasional jumpscare waiting for you…
BEWARE THE DMZ
Along with the new additions that are coming to Al Mazrah and Vondead in Warzone; operators can expect to encounter the horrific evils during a DMZ deployment! For those that have been asking for DMZ at night, here’s your chance!
You can complete the Altairs and more in DMZ, so if Warzone’s restrictive storms and player counts aren’t your thing, or are hoping for a more immersive experience, this is for you.
MULTIPLAYER – HAUNTING ADDITIONS
Multiplayer is joining in on the festivities this year! Two maps will be getting a spooky reskin & gamemodes will get a haunting (pun intended) twist! These additions will arrive during the mid-season:
“Larger-than-life calaveras stand outside the asylum, looking over the festivities of Día de Muertos. Other painted and neon skulls decorate the landscape alongside marigolds, candles, and altars that honor lost loved ones.”

“Diplomacy has broken down: Conduct an evening operation on Embassy following a gruesome zombie attack. The message “Send Help” hangs suspended from the rooftop, but it’s far too late…the zombie attack has already come and gone, leaving structural havoc and corporeal damage in its wake.”

The gamemodes get a small cosmetic change during the mid-season:
- Domination – Scarecrows instead of flags
- Kill Confirmed & Grind – Skulls instead of dog tags
- Drop Zone – Jumpscare care packages
- Infected – Haunting-themed infected (no super-abilities)
