the story so far…
The story of Resident Evil begins, and in many ways never truly leaves, Raccoon City.
In 1998, the Umbrella Corporation’s secret bio-weapons research spiraled into catastrophe when the T-Virus leaked into the isolated Midwestern city. What started as a corporate cover-up turned into a full-scale outbreak, overwhelming local authorities and leaving the U.S. government with a brutal solution: erase the city entirely. Raccoon City was destroyed, Umbrella eventually collapsed, and the truth was buried — at least publicly.
But Umbrella’s research didn’t vanish with it.
Samples, data, and weaponized strains of its viruses spread across the globe, ushering in the age of bioterror. No longer confined to shadowy labs, outbreaks became tools used by terrorists, rogue groups, and power-hungry opportunists. In response, organizations like the BSAA were formed to combat the growing threat. Figures such as Chris Redfield spent years on the front lines, fighting to contain new mutations and prevent further global disasters.
Over time, though, the moral clarity of that fight began to fade. Each new incident revealed how deeply rooted the bio-weapons trade had become. Corporations rebranded. Black-market deals flourished. The line between containment and exploitation grew thinner.
Then the series shifted in a more intimate direction.
Resident Evil 7 introduced the Mold — a fungal organism capable not only of mutating bodies but preserving consciousness itself. It was a different kind of horror, one that blurred the boundaries between identity and infection. Ethan Winters’ ordeal showed how far this new science had evolved, culminating in the events of Resident Evil Village, where the Megamycete became the centerpiece of experiments that pushed the definition of “human” to its limits.![]()
the resident evil: requiem story…
Resident Evil: Requiem promises to continue the series’ tradition of high-stakes bio-horror while introducing a new generation of characters alongside familiar faces.
Two key players are shaping the story: Leon S. Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft. Leon, now 49 years of age, returns as the veteran agent we know — experienced, resourceful, and still at the center of the fight against bioterror. Grace, by contrast, is part of the next generation: the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, a survivor of the Raccoon City outbreak, and likely in her early 20s. She represents the people who didn’t cause the crises of the past but must navigate a world still defined by them.
Their paths are set to intersect as the game explores the continuing consequences of Umbrella’s legacy and the ongoing threat of bio-weapons. Leon brings decades of combat experience and moral authority, while Grace offers fresh perspective, personal stakes, and a link to the original Raccoon City events. Together, they bridge the old and the new, giving players both a sense of continuity and the excitement of exploring a story through the eyes of someone encountering this world for the first time.
This dynamic sets the stage for a story that honors the series’ past while moving it forward into a new era of horror.
Players that enjoyed the latest Resident Evil 2 Remake and its main focus on survival horror will prefer Grace’s sections, and those who enjoyed the Resident Evil 4 Remake with its brutal focus on action horror will like Leon’s sections.
And if you like both? You’re definitely in for a Game Of The Year playthrough, which according to numerous outlets should be about ~9-12 hours.
