MW3 Multiplayer and Zombies are going free to play for a limited time during Season 1. Players can jump into Modern Warfare 3 Zombies and Multiplayer on all platforms during December. Call of Duty typically launches a free trial period each season for every new title, and MWIII won’t be missing out. Here’s everything we know about the free to play period for Modern Warfare III Season 01:
How Call of Duty Free Trials Work

Users on Playstation, Xbox and PC will see a free download option for Call of Duty once the trial begins for the season. As of now, the download size hasn’t been published for the free access period in MW3 Season 1, but that information should be published just before December 14th.
Players won’t need to have an online subscription in order to play during a free access period for Call of Duty, which isn’t expected to change for Modern Warfare 3 Season 1. Regardless of being on Playstation or Xbox, players should be able to play online without having PS Plus or an Xbox subscription.
Free Trial Start & End Times
Activision confirmed that players can jump into Modern Warfare 3 for free starting on December 14th at 10am PT, while the trial concludes on December 18th at 10am PT. During this window, users will have access to limited content in Multiplayer, and the entirety of the Zombies mode.
If players already have Warzone installed, then the free trial should just be an add on for the user’s COD HQ application, allowing a seamless transition from Multiplayer and Zombies to Battle Royale.

The studio confirmed that as apart of the MW3 free access weekend, players will get access to the following content:
6v6 Core Maps
Terminal, Rust, Highrise, Shipment, Afghan and Meat.
Ground War Maps
Popov Power, Orlov Military Base, Levin Resort
Core Modes
Team Deathmatch, Hardpoint, Domination, Kill Confirmed, Ground War, War
Playlists
Rustment 24/7 (Shipment and Rust), War Mode, 6v6 Moshpit (featuring Highrise, Meat, Afghan, Terminal), Ground War, and Modern Warfare Zombies.
Zombies Goes Free to Play
Black Ops Cold War offered free access to both it’s Round Based and Outbreak modes for a limited time during each season’s free trial period. MW3 Zombies offers an expansive, open world extraction experience which will be completely free during the season one trial.
Fans have debated whether another open world Outbreak should release with the rumored Black Ops 2024 title, and whether it should be free to play through Warzone, as DMZ was. The success of the MWIII Zombies mode leaves the price of future iterations up in the air.
