As we see with every season of MWII, a free access weekend is set to release for Season 5 in the coming days. Modern Warfare 2 Free Access grants players the ability to play Multiplayer and possibly Raids without owning the game. MWII Season 5 Reloaded is scheduled to launch just before Free Access begins.

What is Free Access for Modern Warfare 2
Once a season, a free access weekend releases for MW2 Multiplayer, featuring access to a variety of maps and modes in the game. The offering for each MWII Free Access weekend has progressively gotten bigger from Season 1 to Season 4, as the first season offered 3 maps and 4 modes, while the fourth season’s free access contained 13 maps and 14 modes. The Season 5 free access window may contain upwards of 15 maps and modes to choose from. While Campaign and Spec Ops typically aren’t apart of the Free Access windows, Season 2 did offer Raid Episode 1 for free, so it’s possible a few or all the Raids are made free for a limited time.

When Does Season 5 Free Access Begin
The Free Access weekends for the first two seasons began the same week as their Reloaded updates dropped. Strangely though, free access for Season 3 and 4 began around a week or two after the beginning of those seasons, not after the mid season update. With Season 5 Reloaded just a few days away, it’s likely that the upcoming Free Access will be similar to the first two seasons, where it either launches the weekend of, or the weekend after the mid season begins. Thursday August 31st to Monday September 4th could be the target date, while the weekend of September 7th to the 11th is likely the latest we’ll see Free Access for Season 5. The sixth and final season of MW2 begins on Wednesday, September 27th, so time is running out for the Free Access period to begin.

What Content is in Season 5 Free Access
While the offering in Season 5 Free Access is bound to be the largest to date, players can expect some of the new 6v6 maps, like Punta Mar and Strike to be featured. The mid season 5 update is also dropping a new core map, DRC Zone 1, which takes place in Building 21 (DMZ). Free Access for Season 1 and 2 did feature a new map as apart of those respective reloaded updates, so it’s possible DRC Zone 1 is made available during the upcoming Season 5 free access. Apart from over a dozen maps, the entire weapon catalogue and nearly every single mode will be playable during this free access window as well. Fans of Ground War and Gunfight have never been disappointed with a Free Access weekend, as there’s always an offering for those two modes, apart from traditional 6v6.
