Infinity Ward confirmed the end of one of Modern Warfare 2’s NEW modes after just four seasons..

What is Modern Warfare 2’s NEW Mode This Year?
Since Season One Reloaded, new RAID episodes have released in Spec Ops during each mid season update. RAIDS are cooperative expansions to Campaign, challenging players to complete a series of puzzles and obstacles as they progress through the story. While Spec Ops still offers traditional missions that fans of older Modern Warfare titles would recognize, the RAIDS give ‘Co-op’ campaigns an entirely different meaning. Previously, Infinity Ward confirmed MWII’s narrative would be expanded over the course of five seasons, through five RAID episodes. With the launch of Modern Warfare 2 Season 4 on the horizon, Infinity Ward released a blogpost detailing all upcoming DLC for the launch window and mid season. Fans quickly realized that Modern Warfare 2’s exclusive mode would soon be short lived

RAID Episode 5 Cancelled For Modern Warfare 2
In the recent blogpost, Infinity Ward confirms that RAID Episode 4 would serve as the finale to Modern Warfare 2’s post launch narrative, and serve as a bridge to ((REDACTED)). The fourth and final RAID will release with Season 4 Reloaded, and feature Price, Alex and Farah as playable operators. Despite earlier confirmation of five episodes for RAID, it may be possible Infinity Ward had to devote their resources elsewhere, let it be Modern Warfare 3 (2023) or another project entirely. It’s plausible that RAID Episode 4 is now more action packed if they’ve condensed material from what would’ve been a fourth and fifth outing for the mode, unless the scrapped fifth episode is being saved for additional narrative in Modern Warfare 3.
How Many Seasons Of DLC Will Modern Warfare 2 Receive?
Beginning with Modern Warfare 2019, the new seasonal structure of DLC stretched content across six seasons. Black Ops Cold War continued this model which led fans to believe that every upcoming Call of Duty would share a similar schedule. Vanguard however, took fans by surprise when it’s fifth season was marketed as it’s final, paving way for a slightly earlier launch of Modern Warfare 2 in late October. It’s unclear if Activision decided a five season schedule was more appropriate leading into the next premium title, or if Vanguard’s performance led to an executive decision to cut the year short and devote resources elsewhere. With Sledgehammer being rumored to lead Modern Warfare 3 (2023), it’s possible Activision needed them off Vanguard as soon as possible to meet a new deadline. As stated above, Infinity Ward previously confirmed Modern Warfare 2 would have a post launch narrative told across five RAIDS, leading fans to believe this year would also be ending it’s DLC run after just five seasons. With the fifth RAID cancelled, it’s even more unlikely we see a sixth season, unless they plan on continuing the narrative through just DMZ & Warzone, which have also pushed the story forward throughout 2023. The Activision data breach in December 2022 did suggest a sixth season for Modern Warfare 2 was happening, but that information may now be out of date.

Season 4 of Modern Warfare 2 launches on June 14th, with the Mid Season update likely launching on July 12th. For more information, click the video above!
