ALPHA FOUND IN FILES
For those of you that don’t know, as of Modern Warfare 2 (2022), all Call of Duty titles going forward are tied to an application called Call of Duty HQ that’s automatically installed when you install COD on ANY platform it’s available on. Due to this, references to future titles can be found when the files are dug through by the usual suspects that scavenge the in-game files.
With the release of Season 3 Reloaded for Modern Warfare 3 came info on not just the future of MW3, but the upcoming release of Call of Duty 2024. Previously, we reported on the internal code found about COD 2024 including a possible title reveal: “Black Ops 6“. Recently, SemtexLeaks on X/Twitter reported a possible COD 2024 Alpha being referenced in the files of Call of Duty HQ.
PREVIOUS ALPHAS
What could a COD 2024 Alpha mean? We’ve gotten alphas before, most notably, since the release of MW2019. Since then, (with the exceptions being Modern Warfare 2 and 3) Call of Duty have had an alpha, or a very early state of the final product playable for all players.
- MW2019 – Gunfight Alpha
- The Alpha for Modern Warfare was restricted only to the 2v2 Gunfight mode. This gave players a look into the new engine for Call of Duty that was used in MW2019, Vanguard, MW2, MW3, and the upcoming COD 2024.
- Black Ops Cold War – MP Alpha
- The Alpha for Black Ops Cold War was primarily an expansive Alpha for the Multiplayer of Cold War that unlocked everything for everyone to use and test before the official Beta that was coming later on in 2020.
- Vanguard – Champion Hill Alpha
- The Alpha for Vanguard was restricted to the Champion Hill gamemode that was exclusive to only Vanguard. Champion Hill was a tournament style mode where teams of 2 (and later added the ability to run solos, trios, or quads) fought in small arenas playing Gunfight. Players were able to buy weapons, equipment, perks, and killstreaks at a Buy Station in between rounds; they could also buy weapon upgrades mid-game if they so desired. This mode, sadly, never returned after Vanguard.
OPINION: Hopefully, the Alpha for Black Ops 6 is restricted to a specific portion of the MP like MW2019 and Vanguard, and not the full MP like Black Ops Cold War so that way we still have surprises when the Beta rolls around.
POSSIBLE RELEASE
Rumors have it that we are either getting a reveal in Season 3 Reloaded, or sometime after for COD 2024; not to mention the reveal after the Xbox Games Showcase in June. If it follows the trend, shortly after each reveal we get a confirmed Alpha to play for a specific platform which was only PlayStation, but after the Microsoft Acquisition, it’s most likely no longer exclusive. There’s usually a beta not long before a launch either, and we’ve had Campaign Early Access for MW2 & MW3; there’s also a rumored Zombies Early Access potentially coming before launch. Not to forget, Call of Duty NEXT could still happen this year if they follow trend. This means we could potentially have this schedule:
- EARLY AUGUST – COD NEXT
- MID AUGUST – Alpha
- SEPTEMBER – Beta
- EARLY OCTOBER – Campaign and Zombies Early Access
- LATE OCTOBER – Full Game Launch
This is not confirmed, nor rumored, but just speculation on the schedule for COD 2024 releases. Usually COD games that have had a longer dev time get released in October and those with less get a November launch. Since COD 2024 has had a 4 year dev cycle, it should be good to go for an October release.
