Xbox Can Now OWN Call of Duty.. Here’s What’s Changing!

After 18 Months, Microsoft can now own Activision-Blizzard-King as the Acquisition seems to be imminent following todays news.

Today marked an important day for the ongoing Microsoft Acquisition. Microsoft won their court case against the FTC in the US, so they will have no problems buying Activision Blizzard King. The only thing that stops them now is the deal being approved in the UK.

It’s looking like the deal will be going through though, so we can start to speculate what it means for the future of Call of Duty:

POTENTIAL CROSSOVERS IN CALL OF DUTY?

Funny but interesting to talk about, the potential for Microsoft owned characters being added into Call of Duty through the store in Crossover bundles! Now this is a bit of a stretch for now but its still worth bringing up. Characters like Master Chief, Minecraft Steve, and many more could make their way into the FPS shooter in 2024/2025.

FREE ON GAME PASS

Its no secret that Xbox Game Pass has been an absolute beast when it comes to accessibility of many different franchises inside of the gaming space. With this deal almost coming to completion, we should expect all Call of Duty titles to be added onto the subscription service sometime in 2024/2025.

This would be HUGE for the franchise considering it would give a whole new audience of people a chance to play the franchise for basically free through the Xbox Game Pass.

CALL OF DUTY ON NINTENDO SWITCH

We know from previous interviews and documents that Microsoft is very interesting and committed to bringing Call of Duty onto the Nintendo Switch console. Much like Call of Duty being added to Game Pass, this would also open up COD to a brand new player base! More people playing Call of Duty, the better!

It will be interesting to see if we get full premium titles on the Switch though, as I see the most likely thing is just Warzone Mobile at the moment. Other mainstream games such as Fortnite and Apex Legends received Nintendo Switch games that look more or less like their mobile counterpart.

CALL OF DUTY MOBILE SHUTTING DOWN

Back in March, we heard that Microsoft plans to phase out Call of Duty: Mobile after the release of Warzone Mobile. Activision did shut down these claims back in March though, saying COD Mobile is still committed to providing content to their devoted fanbase. After the Microsoft Acquisition goes through we do not know what will happen to the beloved mobile version of Call of Duty.
