With all the console talk coming from Nintendo and Microsoft in the past week, Sony has decided to throw their hat in the ring, so to speak; here’s all you need to know about Sony’s latest developments on the next generation of PlayStation.

After the big announcements last week of the Nintendo Switch and newest Xbox console, the handheld ROG Ally, Gamers have been eager for any word from Sony to see if they’d have any announcements of their own. and while it seems fans will have to wait a while longer before any significant PS6 reveal, Sony did actually end up chiming in; here’s what they had to say:
Yesterday, June 13th, during a Fireside Chat Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO and president Hideaki Nishino had a couple of things to discuss including Cloud Gaming, Sony’s PC strategy, and most importantly touched base on the next generation of Sony hardware.
“We now have a large ecosystem of highly engaged players across both the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 4 generations. So naturally, therefore, there’s a huge interest in our next generation console strategy,” said Hideaki, and while he couldn’t go into too much detail he did confirm that PlayStation 6, PS6 was “at the top of mind” for Sony.

Another big take away from the chat was regarding Sony’s stance on Cloud gaming, and how it’s rise will impact the next generation. To that end, Hideaki stated the following: “Cloud gaming is progressing well from a technical standpoint, as we have demonstrated with [PlayStation Plus Premium and PlayStation Portal] offerings. But end-to-end network stability is not in our control,”
Adding “Cloud gaming is increasingly providing an additional option for players to access content, but our belief is that the majority of players continue to want to experience gaming through local execution without dependency on network conditions. And PS5 and PS5 Pro have validated this thesis, I believe.”
The fact that Playstation has talked at all about the prospect of PS6 has given many gamers hope that an official reveal will happen soon, although until it happens, all we can do is speculate.
