Just recently at Summer Games Fest, Capcom gave us the unexpected announcement and trailer for ‘Resident Evil Requiem’ (aka Resident Evil 9) releasing February 2026! Today we will be breaking down the official Teasers/Trailer Capcom showed us for ‘Resident Evil Requiem’, what the story could unfold based on the glimpses we got from the official Trailer of RE9, Leon S. Kennedy’s & Chris Redfield’s possible return as the main protagonists + more! Here is all the information we have:
RESIDENT EVIL REQUIEM TEASERS BREAKDOWN
During the Summers Games Fest, Capcom were teasing the community leading up to the official announcement for ‘Resident Evil Requiem’ by showing us a Resident Evil sale that was delivered to us by Maggie Robertson the voice actress for ‘Lady Dimitrescu’ one of the main antagonist in ‘Resident Evil Village’.
If we dive into the sale announcement, Maggie seems to give multiple teasers to the community of what we could be expecting to see in the official RE9 trailer and Maggie states, “Wait Long” which, could be a nod to the long awaited announcement of RE9.
In the second teaser showed to us, the camera tends to put a lot of focus on the glass of wine which fans may remember in Resident Evil Village ‘Lady Virginis’ has been producing ‘Sanguis Virginis’ aka the ‘Blood of the Virgin’ since the the 15th century.
Another big teaser is this R.P.D. report in a typewriter labelled as an internal memo about the ‘Raccoon City Outbreak’, marked September 25th making ‘Raccoon City’ have a direct connection to ‘Resident Evil Requiem’ as seen in the official trailer.
We then get a glimpse at a birthday cake which fans can already point out the similarities to Lucas cake from ‘Resident Evil 7’ that Lucas planted a bomb in for Ethan Winters.
We once again see Dimitrescu’s wine as a drop of blood drips from it, a shadowy figure passes by in the reflection.
We then see a shot of Lady Dimitrescu herself along with her daughters from RE8.
Maggie then gives a toast over a cake that reads 30-Year Anniversary.
OFFICIAL RESIDENT EVIL REQUIEM TRAILER BREAKDOWN
The Trailer opens up with a shot of the Federal Bureau of Investigation headquarters . The FBI usually don’t make an appearance in RE, however the FBI were involved with Leon such as, Infinite Darkness being requested by the FBI to help investigate the Carnegie Museum of Art 2006 bombing.
We then see a man walking through the halls of the Bureau, who we will shortly learn he’s named Nathan Dempsy, who’s paid respect by those in the hallway, as he’s head of the FBI.
It’s impossible to make out here, but he passes a billboard of FBI’s 10 most wanted fugitives.
We are introduced to our mousey FBI technical analyst, Grace Ashcroft (daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft aka the reporter from the Resident Evil Outbreak games).
Alyssa was mentioned in a file in RE7 as she was investigating the disappearances in Dulvey Parish, Louisiana.
Grace is writing up a summary report about a fourth victim who’s died of an “unidentified disease”, found in an abandoned government office interestingly.
Nathan storming on to meet Grace, & Grace seems a bit awkward.
We see her feet up on her chair as she’s writing & leaning into the screen, later see her clumsily knock some stuff over.
Painting an early picture of what she’s like, but seems very capable in
Grace’s field is to the point Nathan as the head of the FBI very specifically wants to ask her to take on this crucial case.
Nathan tries to call out to Grace, but she’s so caught up in her computer work, Nathan knocks & startles her.
It looks like Grace’s mother was murdered as we see violent flashbacks of the past where her mom, ‘Alyssa Ashcroft’, was investigating the hotel for something we don’t know about as of now.
We get a shot of a Figure in a black raincoat (speculated to be Leon S. Kennedy) appears to be male.
He appears disfigured, and notably he is spitting up a lot of saliva as he stands there & presumably this scene is from the Alyssa flashback before her death as well.
We see a shot completely out of context of three men apparently standing over someone with a bright light.
It gives a real sense of surgery being performed. It’s hard to make a full visual but the individual in the middle is wearing a tie, the guy on the left is wearing a jacket, & the guy to the right is wearing something that resembles a hazmat suit.
We hear a man’s voice say, “Grace”, and suddenly Grace jolts up awake in a cold sweat.
The coloration of Grace’s eye vaguely resembles the Resident Evil: Revelations 2 box art.
Grace awakens strapped down to a gurney, completely strapped down.
She has an IV drip inserted into her, and has bandaged underneath her shirt with blood around her chest.
She yells for help, asking herself what is this, confused & scared.
We get a shot of outside the hotel on the main city street.
This shot in particular could possibly help give an idea that the hotel is a place in the middle of a city that people pass through every day & don’t give a second thought about. Horror in plain sight.
We then see an individual sitting in a chair by the fireplace. He says, “I know now that you’re the one I’ve been searching for. A special one. The chosen one.”
It’s unclear who this character is but if we take a close look at his outfit, he seems to be wearing, black leather coat & glove combo that is really reminiscent of Albert Wesker the main antagonist of the Resident Evil franchise.
He also does have a notable accent similar to Albert Wesker.
The trailer then transitions into modern day post-nuked ‘Raccoon City’ and we get some shots of the ruins of the city at dawn.
We see the gates to Racoon Police Station in shambles as we hear a woman’s voice saying, “Please know that you’re my hope…” And we hear what sounds like Grace saying, “Everyone’s gone…”
Then a man at the bottom of the stairs that is bleeding out and screams “Stay away from me!”
We see a guy that seems to be dressed in a FBI uniform being choked out with a plastic bag to suffocation by the black coat figure we saw earlier in the trailer, and they seem to want to kill him.
In the final shot of the trailer we see a woman walk up ahead in some kind of hospital bay, and the camera transitions to a zombie and the official title for RE9 is revealed to be Resident Evil Requiem.
WHAT WILL THE RESIDENT EVIL REQUIEM STORY LOOK LIKE & WHO WILL BE THE MAIN CHARACTERS?
From the certain shots of the trailer we can already tell the game will be taking place post-nuked ‘Raccoon City’ and it seems the time period will be set in modern day (2026) after the events of Resident Evil Village & 28 years after Raccoon City was nuked.
In terms of main characters, the main protagonist will be, Grace Ashcroft, based on her importance in the trailer and the cover art for the game.
It’s been speculated that Leon S. Kennedy, and Chris Redfield will make a return in RE9 considering, the black hooded figure in the trailer could resemble Leon, and fans have stated they heard Chris talk briefly in the trailer.
The story could be the final conclusion to the Resident Evil franchise, potentially tying up loose ends and ending the story once and for all.
