Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) Coming to Xbox Game Pass | What We Know So Far

It looks like Xbox Game Pass will be getting a huge addition to their library of Call of Duty titles. It’s been reported by Insider Gaming that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) will be made available on Game Pass. We’ll be taking a small look into what could be coming for fans of the classic Call of Duty title. Here’s what you need to know:

Release Date

While a concrete date isn’t confirmed, it’s reported that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) will be coming to Game Pass this year. Most likely, it could release around March or April onto Xbox Game Pass.

Which Version of MW2 Is It?

There’s speculation as to which MW2 we could see released on Xbox Game Pass. To clarify, there are 2 versions of MW2 (20009. One only contains only campaign however. Let’s look over each version.

Full Game Release (2009)

The first version of MW2 fans could receive is the entire game that was released in 2009. This release of the game includes the iconic campaign, content packed multiplayer, & crazy Spec. Ops mode. This would be the preferred version for players to see released on Game Pass.

While this version would be the fuller version to bring to XBOX game pass, there is a SIGNIFICANT issue that’d need to be fixed. The hacking issues in the classic MW2 (2009) multiplayer mode ran rampant back then & continues to today. Activision would have to get a grip on the issue in a big way. Though, this could be troublesome as they struggle with hacking issues in modern COD titles today.

Remastered Campaign (2020)

The second option they could release would be the Remastered Campaign. Infinity Ward had the campaign beautifully remastered in 2020, though it was the only remastered feature from the 2009 release. The 2009 MW2 multiplayer was rumored to be in the works for a remaster, but it never came to fruition.

Releasing this version of the game wouldn’t yield much replay-ability, & would likely leave players dissatisfied. As great as the remastered campaign was, it’s linear & can only be played so many times before growing tiresome & repetitive.
