MW3 Zombies Season 1 is scheduled to release with the addition of Dark Aether Rifts, allowing players to enter the ACT 4 story mission. Players can enter the Dark Aether in MWIII Zombies season 1 if they collect artifacts around Urzikstan. Here’s everything we know about entering the dark aether and finding sigils in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies Season One.
How The Dark Aether Works in MW3 Zombies
You will be able to enter the Dark Aether from the ‘No Signal’ Story Mission whenever you please, but you will forced to do the Story Objectives and nothing else. You cannot unlock Sigils, Elder Sigils, or any of the NEW Schematics from here.
To enter the Dark Aether to FREE ROAM, you must perform a small Easter Egg Quest in order to gain a Sigil. You will then gain permanent access to the Dark Aether Rift in every game going forward, the only requirement is a Sigil!
DARK AETHER ARTIFACTS
To enter the Dark Aether again after completing the Story Mission, you must find 4 different Artifacts to be able to go back to free roam in it. Once collected, they must be placed on the Alters found at the base of the Aether Tornado at the bottom of the High Threat Zone. The Artifacts are as follows:
LOCKED DIARY
This is obtained through simply completing the Act 4 Story Mission and defeating the Aether Worm boss inside of the Dark Aether.
SECURITY CAMERA
You MUST have Dead Wire for this item. With your Dead Wire weapon; shoot a Harvester Orb and grab the purple camera that drops from it. Now, go into an Aether Rift, fly into colored rift, and complete the bounty to upgrade that artifact.
PILL BOTTLE
You MUST have Brain Rot for this item. Using your Brain Rot weapon; shoot a Cyst one time and look for a Pill Bottle that will drop from one of them. Once it drops, collect the bottle and go into the nearby rift. Fly into the colored rift, and complete bounty to upgrade that artifact.
DOG COLLAR
PUT ONE FLESH AND MOLOTOV IN A DOG HOUSE. Kill the dog for a collar, go into nearby rift., fly into the colored rift, and complete the bounty to upgrade that artifact.
OPENING THE DARK AETHER RIFT
Go back to the Dark Aether Tornado found at the bottom of the High Threat Zone, and place all of the Artifacts in their designated pedestals:
- DOG COLLAR
- Napalm Burst
- PILL BOTTLE
- Brain Rot
- SECURITY CAMERA
- Dead Wire
- LOCKED DIARY
- Cyro Freeze

How to Find Dark Aether Sigils
Once you’ve placed all Artifacts on the altairs, and have killed the Mega Abomination that spawns; there will be a Reward Rift that will spawn and give you 1 Sigil to use on that portal. You will need a sigil everytime enable to reenter the Dark Aether.
Thankfully, after doing this for the first time, you can now earn Sigils from High Threat Zone Contracts on Urzikstan. After you’ve gotten a Sigil, you can interact with the new Dark Aether rift and enter the Dark Aether!
How to Find Elder Sigils
Elder Sigils are an extra addition to the Dark Aether rifts that, when obtained, will allow the player and their squad to enter a “Tier 4” like arena with harder enemies and even more rewards!
Elder Sigils can only be found inside the Dark Aether. You will need to complete contracts to find these, of which you can find via Mr. Peeks (the stuffed bunny) instead of the usual phones! Completing any contract inside of the Dark Aether has a chance of giving you this in a Reward Rift, but its not guaranteed, so you may need to complete many contracts before you obtain one!
NEW PLANS AND SCHEMATICS
The Dark Aether is where you go to access the new Schematics and Plans for the Season 1 Acquisitions!
Similar to the Elder Sigils, you will have to find these ONLY in the Dark Aether and you must complete contracts to obtain them. You may have to do multiple contracts before you earn these items, so keep trying! You can also exfil and put these items in your stash! This includes Sigils, Acquistions, and Artifacts!
FREE ‘GEODE’ MCW BLUEPRINT
By Completing 3 Contracts inside of the Dark Aether, it will award you with the ‘Geode’ MCW Blueprint, with some Dark Aether decals on it!
