Call of Duty is doing a follow up to the Vortex challenge event that released earlier this year. Modern Warfare 3 is set to receive Vortex: Decay’s Realm on March 27th, as we near the end of Season 2. The MW3 Season 2 Reloaded Decay’s Realm event will bring forth two new map remixes, a series of challenges and a FREE animated camo. MWIII & Warzone have been on a role with weekly challenge events, with no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Here’s everything we know about the Modern Warfare III Vortex: Decay’s Realm challenge event:
NEW VORTEX MAP REMIXES
Following the positive reception to the Season 1 Vortex maps, Sledgehammer has opted to bring those maps back with support for Team Deathmatch, Domination, Kill Confirmed and Hardpoint. The Raygun LTM isn’t returning, but two more map remixes are confirmed to join the first three.
Skidgrow and Airbourne are the latest maps to join the Vortex playlist, as Skidrow and Terminal receive an overgrown, post apocalyptic makeover which was previously teased in the MW3 Season 2 trailer. All five Vortex maps will be playable in a limited time playlist until April 3rd.
DECAY’S REALM CHALLENGE EVENT
As confirmed in the Season 2 blogpost, a new challenge event is set to begin on March 27th inside of MW3 and Warzone. Decay’s Realm will require players to complete challenges “across all games” which may imply support for Multiplayer, Warzone, Zombies and possibly Warzone Mobile.
The previous Vortex challenge event in Season 1 was XP focused, allowing players to jump into any mode they wanted to work towards numerous rewards, including the Magma animated camo. A list of challenges for Decay’s Realm has been leaked, but the exact amount of kills needed for each challenge is still unknown.

- Get 30 Operator Kills With The Crossbow Weapon or JAK Purifier Attachment Equipped
- Get 15 Operator Kills Shortly After Sprinting With The Throwing Knife While Using The Demolition Vest Perk
- Get 10 Operator Kills With The Mosquito Drone or Remote Turret Killstreaks
- Get 40 Hipfire Operator Kills With The JAK Backsaw Kit Aftermarket Part Equipped
- Get 40 Operator Kills With The Haymaker Weapon While Using The Gunner Vest Perk
WARZONE
- Deploy 3 Portable Decontamination Stations
- In a Single Match, Activate The Research Vessel’s UAV Tower, Decon Station and Horn.
- Finish The Rogue Signal Public Event Ranked in The Top 3
- Open 25 Loot Caches While On The Research Vessel
- Hit 5 Enemy Operators With a Bunker Buster Killstreak
ZOMBIES
- Get 150 Zombie Kills With The Crossbow or The JAK Purifier Attachment
- Get 50 Zombie Kills With The Throwing Knife While Speed Cola is Active
- Get 25 Zombie Kills With Sentry Guns
- Get 15 Special Zombie Kills With SMGs
- Get 200 Zombie Kills With The Haymaker
DECAY’S REALM EVENT REWARDS
Thanks to the Season 2 blogpost, a list of rewards is already known for the upcoming Vortex: Decay’s Realm challenge event. The previous Vortex event provided around 16 rewards, which included several XP tokens. This list for the new Vortex event may be incomplete:
- “Apocalyptic” Calling Card.
- “Valve Replacement” Emblem.
- “The Swarm” Weapon Charm.
- “Grave Worm” Weapon Sticker.
- 1 Hour Double Weapon XP Token.
- “Wriggler” Weapon Camo.
DECAY’S REALM WRIGGLER CAMO GAMEPLAY
The final reward for the MW3 Decay’s Realm event is confirmed to be the animated Wriggler weapon camo, which gameplay already surfaced for. Credit to @CODWARFAREFORUM on Twitter for posting early footage of the upcoming universal camo.
