WHEN DOES MW3 RANKED PLAY RELEASE
Currently, Treyarch is planning to release a new iteration of ranked play for Modern Warfare 3 during Season 1. While Ranked has been confirmed to be an “in season” update, it’s to be assumed that the mode will be bundled with the Season 1 Reloaded update, which release on January 17th, 2024.
The release date of MW3 ranked play will be separate from the new release of Warzone Ranked Play, which may not end up releasing until Season 2 or beyond. Treyarch confirmed that they will be providing more details about the future of Ranked Play in the coming weeks.
RANKED PLAY DETAILS
With Season 1 around the corner for Modern Warfare III, we come ever closer to Ranked play. Ranked play will launch with Season 1 Reloaded and consists of three game modes:
- Hardpoint
- Search and Destroy
- Control
All Competitive game modes are limited to 4V4 rather than the standard 6V6, and the weapon loadouts are restricted to certain items.
HARDPOINT
The first of these game modes is Hardpoint! Hardpoint will have a 5 minute timer with a 250 point score limit; each Hardpoint zone will last for 60 Seconds, with the next zone being revealed after 50 seconds has passed. The maps you will be able to play for Hardpoint are:
- Invasion
- Karachi
- Skidrow
- Sub Base
- Terminal

SEARCH AND DESTROY
The second game mode available is Search and Destroy, more commonly known as SND. SND is a turn based mode where teams alternate Offense and Defense. Rounds last for 90 seconds with a total of 6 wins necessary to win the game.

The objective on Offense is to detonate one of the bombsites by planting a bomb on one of the sites and defending it. On Defense, you’re goal is to stop the other team from detonating one of the bombsites by eliminating them; if the other team plants the bomb, you must defuse it. Both teams can win a round by eliminating each other if they so choose. You also now need to win by 2 for the first time ever with a max of 8 wins. The Maps for SND are:
- Highrise
- Invasion
- Karachi
- Skidrow
- Terminal
CONTROL
The third and final game mode is Control. Control is a battle of Attrition where one team’s objective is to capture 2 points on the map while the other team must Defend the points. The match starts with a 90 second timer with each point captured awarding you bonus time.

You and your team will have a limited number of lives, so play carefully and try to get ahead at all costs. The Maps for Control include:
- Highrise
- Invasion
- Karachi
