Call of Duty recently revealed their new trailer for Modern Warfare 3 that reveals Makarov and a small peak at MW3! On top of our peak at MWIII, we got another announcement of the reveal event happening August 17th for Modern Warfare III. Here’s what you need to know:
Marketing season kicks off for Modern Warfare III and with it came a new trailer set around the game’s villain: Makarov.

The trailer starts looking down a prison corridor and then cuts to a silhouette of a man.

He appears to then be handcuffed and taken out of his cell by the prison guards.

As the lyrics of the music being used kick off. We see the corridor being walked down. It’s similar to an old Russian prison, perhaps it’s the Gulag. We see prisoners in other cells back away from their doors as our mystery man walks past. Perhaps out of fear… or loyalty.

We get a scene of prison dogs barking, then a reveal of the man’s tattoos. This starts Captain Price’s narration.

We then get our first shot of gameplay, featuring an underwater level.

Then we see inmates beating another while our man watches. The guards do nothing, and the man watches. The inmates realize, stop and look at the man, and he nods. They continue to beat the other inmate, just as if it was planned to be done.

We get shot of the man’s other tattoos, bringing us to a skull this time. It takes us to a team rappelling up from the water and silently taking out a guard upon a castle-like area. Could this be a scene of a prison rescue?

The guards then leave the man with only two guards this time. No telling as to why.

We get a shot of a satchel being opened to reveal sharp needles. Torture perhaps? No…

We now have a shot of his back tattoo. It could symbolize the idea of “the real Russians” that Hadir teases in Raid Episode 4.

There’s a shot of the Stadium from Verdansk, the Warzone map from MW2019, with a hole blown into its side.

The next shot is of people running, likely due to an attack our mystery man caused.

The final shot of his tattoos brings us to an image of a double-headed bird.

More gameplay. Plane crash where the witnesses are killed and burned.

Slow zoom in of our character getting one last tattoo. It’s a knife; his face still in the dark until…

Some shots in this trailer have fans speculating about the return of Verdansk, as shown in the gameplay screenshots below. We see what appears to be the Verdansk Stadium, and the Verdansk Prison inside of this Makarov teaser. Could Makarov’s backstory be heavily involved with Verdansk? Only time will tell as more information comes out about the ultimate threat.
