Fans of the Obsidian camo from Modern Warfare (2019) will be able to unlock it through a challenging grind in MW3 Season 4. The MW3 Season 4 Obsidian camo will be available on every weapon, including the ones from Modern Warfare II. Sledgehammer recently introduced a new camo system which works on a per weapon basis, unlock the mastery camo grind. Here’s how to unlock the Obsidian camo in Modern Warfare 3:
HOW PRESTIGE CAMOS WORK
With the launch of Season 3 Reloaded, Sledgehammer Games introduced a new camo grind which hardcore fans have been waiting for. While this likely isn’t the teased grand unlock for those who’ve unlocked all mastery camos, this grind still requires a bit of time in game.
Prestige weapon camos can be unlocked on a per weapon basis, first requiring 150,000 weapon XP to earn players the animated “One Trick” camo. Players can use this camo on the gun they grinded 150,000 weapon XP for, only after that weapon is max rank.
EARN WEAPON XP FAST / EASY
Notable strategies for earning fast Weapon XP includes popping a 2WXP token and getting as many kills as possible in long matches of Multiplayer, Warzone or Zombies. Completing contracts or weapon related challenges in any mode can also help players burn through weapon XP relatively quick.
Players have reported only spending around 90 minutes in game doing the above to earn the 150,000 weapon XP required for the One Trick camo. NOTE: Prestige camos don’t need to be unlocked on every weapon in a certain category for the camo to be used.
HOW TO UNLOCK OBSIDIAN
Season 4 is adding a new weapon prestige camo on launch. The new (REDACTED) animated camo may be nameless, but is clearly Obsidian based on the blogpost image. Beginning on May 29th, players can earn the Obsidian camo if they hit 200,000 total weapon XP with a maxed out weapon.
A prerequisite for Obsidian according to the blog post is to earn the One Trick camo for the weapon you want Obsidian on. It’s unclear if Obsidian requires 200,000 new weapon XP, or if it’s just 50,000 extra weapon XP on top of the 150,000 that was required for One Trick.
FUTURE CAMO UPDATES
Modern Warfare 3 has been king in terms of camo support and camo unlocks. With the most amount of camos offered in Call of Duty history, it’s no surprise that Season 4 is adding an iconic camo that players have come to love over the years.
With teasers of a grand mastery reward for players who unlocked multiple end game camos like Interstellar and Borealis, it remains to be seen if the once leaked camo mixing feature will ever make it’s way to Modern Warfare 3.
Still, fans can look forward to new challenge events, with some even featuring new camo rewards as we’ve typically seen. Prestige camos are expected to be added all the way up until Season 6.
