Black Ops 6 Zombies is bringing back round based maps when the game releases this October. Two round based maps for COD 2024 Zombies have been revealed through in game teasers from MW3 Zombies. BO6 Zombies is rumored to feature early access to at least one round based map after a player pre orders the game. Here’s everything you need to know about the first two round based maps in Black Ops 6 Zombies:
THE RETURN TO FORM
Treyarch Studios first developed Round Based Zombies in World At War (2008) and continued to release new maps from Black Ops (2010) all the way until Black Ops Cold War (2020). Outbreak was an experimental open world mode that released in Season 2 of Cold War, which was very well received. After Activision put a small team at Treyarch in charge of Zombies for Vanguard (2021) and Modern Warfare 3 (2023), the studio tried a different approach for the mode.
Vanguard offered a round based and outbreak hybrid mode which was objective focused before Treyarch eventually pumped out two classic round based maps to conclude that game’s cycle. MW3 featured a sequel to Cold War’s Outbreak mode, this time combining it with the foundation that DMZ established in Modern Warfare 2 (2022).
Black Ops 6 will be Treyarch’s first time developing round based with the full team on board since Forsaken, the final map that released in Cold War Season 6. It’s been said that Black Ops 6 has had a 4 year development cycle, giving it the longest production of any Treyarch title to date.
TWO ROUND BASED MAPS
We previously reported on everything that’s been leaked or rumored for Black Ops 6, specifically for Zombies. Two code names for round based maps include: zm_quartz and zm_guarnet. Both of these round based maps are expected to ship with Black Ops 6, with one taking place in a town and the other taking place on an island with an underground prison.
According to Windows Central, players who pre order Black Ops 6 will get weeks of early access to Zombies. While it’s possible both round based maps are playable during early access, it’s likely one map will be saved for the full launch, to ensure content is spread out accordingly.
Black Ops 4 launched with three round based maps on disc, and a smaller bonus map for season pass owners. Although the maps were generally well received, the game released in a buggy condition which led to many players abandoning the game after an overwhelming launch. Treyarch likely won’t release that many maps at once again, and will instead space experiences out in the future.
LIBERTY FALLS
Intel in Cold War Zombies confirmed West Virginia as a point of interest for the new Dark Aether storyline. New radios in MW3 Season 3 Reloaded doubled down on taking the story to a town which suffered a Zombie outbreak.
Miller, a character that communicates with the player in MW3 Zombies is confirmed to have been present in a town referred to as “Liberty ____”. Treyarch intentionally left out the second part of the town’s name, which was later discovered to be “Liberty Falls” as leakers found the name in the game’s files of this specific audio log.
TERMINUS ISLAND
The ACT 2 cinematic cutscene in MW3 Zombies confirmed that Fletcher served on a security detail on Terminus Island in 1991, but was discharged two years later. This was the first reference to the island which was previously referred to as Blacksite 13 in Cold War Zombies, where Requiem is imprisoned.
Forsaken revealed that the Director is none other than Richtofen, who dissolved Requiem and set Project Janus in motion after Samantha went into the Dark Aether. This island has an underground prison, which the CIA scrubbed all evidence of in the late 1990s. Black Ops 6 is rumored to take place in the 90s, with both Campaign and presumably Zombies.
ACT 4’s newest mission “Union” features a cutscene depicting an old Dr Grey in 1996, presumably after she escapes captivity.
