EARLY LOOK at Black Ops 6 ‘Avalon’ Warzone Map, Potentially Coming.

With the Black Ops 6 Direct event having come & gone, we got our first look at quite possibly the new Warzone map coming to Black Ops 6. Seemingly it’s a hybrid sized style map similar to that of a map we have now, Vondel. But what does this mean for the current crop of Warzone maps available? Which will be replaced? Is this new map involved in the Campaign? Here, we are going to be taking a look into what’s been shown regarding the potential new Warzone map coming to Black Ops 6:

EARLY LOOK AT AVALON MAP

During the Direct event for Black Ops 6, a peculiar clip is played of a Hellstorm Missile being called onto a map unlike anything we’ve seen in MP. Possibly tied to Campaign, but what are the odds this clip is shown close to the part where they mentioned Warzone for Black Ops 6? There’s a lot of speculation regarding the map shown in that clip to be the new Warzone map Avalon.

If you went into the submarine over on Rebirth Island, there was a bulletin board that you had to interact with to complete a new easter egg. On the bulletin board, you could see key points of interest labeled as DC, Kuwait, Iraq, & Avalon. Based on recent marketing, we know DC, Iraq, & Kuwait will all be associated with the Campaign, but Avalon is an area we haven’t heard of, at least not recently.

Based on what we know, Avalon isn’t for Multiplayer, possibly for Campaign, but judging from the size of this map from what we can see in the gameplay, it’s probably something Resurgence sized or Vondel sized where it’s a hybrid between a Battle Royal/Resurgence size.

There’s a particular map that you can see in the Black Ops 6 direct stream & it’s an actual map that says Avalon, which lines up perfectly with footage of a clip seen during the Direct event. You can see lots of bodies of water, as well as plenty of buildings. There’s one building specifically that perfectly lines up with the physical Tac Map & can be seen in several clips during the Direct. There’s also a gameplay clip that was shown without a HUD, where the building is present. The gameplay seems to take place near the docks of what appears to be this Avalon type map.

WHICH WARZONE MAP GETS VAULTED? | POSSIBLE SEASON 1 RELEASE

As it stands now, we currently have Urzikstan, Vondel, Fortunes Keep, & Rebirth Island. We all currently expect Urzikstan to be cycled out in Season 1, but they could go for a twist. They could possibly cycle out Vondel since it’s a map that’s a hybrid between Battle Royale & Resurgence, with the possibility that Avalon is roughly that size based on the Tac-Map that we can currently see, it doesn’t really look that big. It’s possible that with the launch of Season 1, Avalon could replace Vondel.

With the recent vaulting of Ashika Island, it’s to be expected that no more than 4 maps will be active in Warzone as any given moment in time. What they could do, is keep Urzikstan & Vondel on rotation for Battle Royale, vault the Resurgence part of Vondel, & keep Fortunes Keep & Rebirth on rotation for Resurgence. However, with the addition of Avalon, which again is possibly a hybrid style map, either Vondel or Urzikstan could be vaulted & Avalon takes their respective slots in either Battle Royale, Resurgence, or both. Fortunes Keep & Rebirth are both too new of maps to be vaulted already, with neither of them even reaching a year old yet.

REPURPOSED MAPS

With the likelihood that Avalon could be used within the campaign, the usual comments of reused assets come up, but it’s honestly better if they can find ways to repurpose good & replayable environments for multiple modes. That way they can save & focus resources more on other new pieces of content & other post launch support content over the course of 2024. One must also consider Warzone maps have been taken & repurposed from Campaigns through the years: Verdansk from Modern Warfare (2019), Al Mazrah & Las Almas in MW2, Urzikstan in MW3. We’ve typically seen the Warzone map within the campaign. With the evidence that Avalon is already in the Black Ops 6 Campaign, there’s a very strong possibility if it doesn’t get added to Warzone, we’re likely to see sections of it put into Multiplayer.
