DMZ silently removes Near-PVE Mode in Modern Warfare 4
Queuing Story Missions in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ once placed players in low-player lobbies focused on missions, allowing near-PVE map exploration and looting with few threats. The October 28 update silently switched this to normal Free Roam or Dynamic Ops matches with more players and instant UAVs. Unmentioned in patch notes, this upset fans seeking PVE.
Since before the Launch of MW4 DMZ, players were worried about Modern Warfare 4 having no PVE Mode for the first time in nearly 20 years. After it has released, players were quick to criticize the PVP elements of DMZ, with many thinking it is too much and would rather play PVE only. For the past week, there was a method to play in nearly PVE only lobbies, but then it was silently removed…
The ‘PvE Only’ Mode in DMZ
While not perfect, loading into Story Missions in DMZ would place you in a lobby with other players also doing a story mission. This would lead to significantly less players on the map, with the remaining players only focused on their Story Mission. If you queue into a Story Mission in DMZ, and then not do the Story Mission, it would allow players to freely explore and loot the map with minimal threat.
Like we said, It’s not perfect, but it is the closest thing to a PVE Only Mode in DMZ, which players were enjoying.
Story Mission Matchmaking silently updated in DMZ
With the October 28th Update, Story Missions now no longer place you into a match with less players or players doing another story mission, it will place you in what seems to be a normal lobby of Free Roam or Dynamic Ops. This leads to UAV towers being activated immediately, with increased players also loading in.
This has lead to many players to be upset, as this was not mentioned in the Modern Warfare 4 Patch Notes, or claimed anywhere by any official Call of Duty channel. but the Players can feel it. With one of the major threads posted on X last night by a community member:
As of now, there is no comment from Infinity Ward or Activision about the change, but the community is now talking more than ever about a PVE Only Mode in DMZ. With Season 1 right around the corner, it seems Modern Warfare 4 is doubling down PVP focus as the next map is akin to Building 21, said by Infinity Ward back at the start of October.
