Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will release worldwide on October 25th, 2024. Black Ops 6’s Campaign was revealed through the Xbox Direct Event, and with it comes questions relating to how it fits into the Black Ops timeline. Specifically, players are curious as to what part of the Black Ops 2’s flashback missions are canon. Today, we bring you a breakdown of the events from BO2 that tie into the BO6 story. TIMELINE OF EVENTS
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has a campaign set to take place in the 1990s, and today, our goal is to go back over Black Ops 2’s flashback missions in the 80’s to get a better idea of what’s to come. Now that Wood’s appearance in Warzone has definitively canonized Black Ops 2, taking a closer look at the flashback storyline within will be perfect for improving our comprehension of the Black Ops universe around the time BO6 will take place.
Black Ops 2’s 1980’s missions are told via flashbacks while Woods tells stories to David Mason:
- In 1986, Alex Mason retired and lived in Alaska with his son, David. He was asked by Jason Hudson to join a mission in Cuando Cubango to rescue Woods, who had gone missing while aiding rebels in Angola.
- Mason, Hudson, and Woods found and rescued Woods in Cubango but failed to capture Menendez, a Cuban military adviser who had held Woods captive.
- The trio began tracking Menendez, a major arms dealer in Southern Africa and Latin America. They allied with the Afghan Mujahideen against the Soviets and interrogated Lev Kravchenko about Menendez’s plans before Kravchenko was killed.
- Menendez’s vendetta against the West stemmed from his sister’s injury in an arson attack by American businessmen.
- The Menendez family, involved in a drug cartel, suffered losses, leading to Raul’s father’s assassination by the CIA. Menendez’s vendetta intensified.
- During a raid on Menendez’s base in Nicaragua, Woods accidentally killed Menendez’s sister Josefina with a grenade.
- Menendez faked his death with Manuel Noriega’s help and sought revenge. In the 1989 Panama invasion, he kidnapped Hudson and David, leading to a confrontation where Woods mistakenly shot and killed Mason instead of Menendez after being manipulated by Menendez via Hudson.
- Menendez may have had moles within the CIA based on information received from certain player choices during Kravchenko’s interrogation.
- The mole is possibly implied to be Hudson, but this remains speculation.
- Menendez kills Hudson, and leaves Woods paralyzed.
This is where we are now. Woods is in a wheelchair, and it seems in Warzone that he is warning us about moles within the Government. Considering the fact the mole is still active after the death of Hudson, this may confirm that he was in fact not the mole during Black Ops 2 – or at least not the ONLY mole. And considering this, it is very likely the events of BO6 are going to pick up right where Black Ops 2 left off.
