During the COD NEXT Modern Warfare 3 event, I managed to snag a view at all upcoming mastery camos coming to the game on November 10th. Both MW3 multiplayer and zombies will be receiving separate mastery camo grinds, just as we saw in previous Treyarch titles. Here are all the MWIII mastery camos that have been found thus far.
The New Camo System in Modern Warfare 3
Modern Warfare 2 (2022) introduced the community to a new camo system that allows players to passively grind weapon camos, as the challenges were streamlined in a way never seen before. Players were required to unlock four camo challenges for an individual weapon, before unlocking the gold challenge for that same weapon. Those four initial camos then became available for use on all other weapons in the game. Platinum camo was immediately obtainable for a weapon once the player had gold unlocked, without the need to obtain gold on an entire weapon category as seen in previous titles.
Polyatomic and Orion were the two other mastery camos that were available for all MW2 weapons. Players had to unlock platinum on an individual weapon before having access to it’s polyatomic challenge, and needed to obtain 51 polyatomic weapon camos before being given instant access to orion. The camo system was weapon oriented, instead of weapon class oriented, which is rumored to be the same kind of system we see in Modern Warfare 3
All MW3 Multiplayer Mastery Camos (So Far)
According to the unfinished calling card menus from COD NEXT, players may be seeing at least 3 different mastery camos in Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer. There were a ton of placeholders and blank calling cards in the MW3 menus, meaning all of this information is subject to change and may not reflect the day 1 content on November 10th. The camos I managed to see include new versions of gold, platinum and a mysterious looking twist on orion.
While it’s likely a fourth camo, like polyatomic, will be unlockable before the final mastery, it’s also possible they stick to just three camos as most Call of Duty titles in the past typically stuck with no more than two. Then again, Zombies will be receiving it’s own set of camos, which will make up for a potential lack of a fourth multiplayer mastery camo.
All MW3 Zombies Mastery Camos (So Far)
Treyarch recently confirmed that MW3 Zombies will indeed have it’s own mastery camo progression system, which will be revealed closer to launch. While in the calling card menus at COD NEXT, I managed to find a list of other MWIII camos which have similar names to old zombie camos in the past, and were found close to other MW3 zombies calling cards. Some of these camos may NOT be for zombies, and this certainly isn’t the final list of mastery camos either. The list of potential zombie camos includes bioluminescent, spinal husk, golden enigma, serpentinite, arachnida and a nameless one.
DMZ recently received a mastery camo in the form of serpentine, which required an incredibly tedious barter quest that isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s unlikely the Zombies mastery camo challenges will be anything similar, despite the mode clearly having an extraction focus. It’s likely that the MW3 zombie camo challenges will be in tune with what the requirements were for the camos we saw in Black Ops 4 and Cold War zombies.
Exclusive Zombie Camo For MW2 Weapons
Much to our surprise, Treyarch also confirmed that with the Carry Forward feature coming to Modern Warfare 3, players will be able to grind zombies camos on the MW2 set of weapons, which vastly increases replayability. While more details on what this camo grind entails weren’t shared at COD NEXT, it’s likely that the same zombie camos for the MW3 set of weapons will be made available on the MW2 weapons, just through different challenges. Strangely though, players cannot unlock the new MW3 multiplayer camos on Modern Warfare 2 weapons, but can still grind the MW2 weapon camos inside of Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer.
