Resident Evil Requiem is the best selling game in its franchise history to date, having sold over 5 million copies over a single weekend.
With fans, both old and new, banding together and enjoying its latest entry into the franchise it is only natural for rumors and leaks to come forward.
That the game is a hit is confirmed through its sales and reviews from both fans and outlets, but what is next for the game?

Multiple insiders and respected leakers within the gaming community have claimed that a story DLC for Requiem already is in its late development stages, featuring Leon S. Kennedy as main character.
It would follow and fill in the gaps of Leon’s story up to Resident Evil Requiem, such as what he was doing during the events of the other main franchise games like Resident Evil 7, Village etc. to really give players his entire story, and what potentially could even be the next Leon appearance further down the line in a newer game.
The insiders also mentioned that it could include several missions taking place in the post-nuke Raccoon City once more, with more and new enemy variants whilst also providing extra lore about the in-game world post-Umbrella.
It’s speculated release date is to be mid-2026, around July, and considering it is rumored to already be in its late stages of development and the game its massive success it would only make sense to continue the hype surrounding the franchise as soon as possible.

Some fans on social media also speculate that a second DLC surrounding Alyssa Ashcroft, Grace’s mother, could be in the works and function as a prequel.
Rumors have it that they are purely investigation based and of shorter duration.
Meanwhile, some fans speculate that a Chris Redfield DLC is the one that is next in line, based off the canonical ending of Requiem and Leon mentioning Chris and his team, with potential hints to Leon’s mysterious marriage with Ada Wong, which is semi-confirmed by the Resident Evil storywriter through Twitter/X private messages.

Before the launch of Requiem it was already rumored that the next game in the franchise would be another Remake, especially after the success of the Resident Evil 4 Remake.
Of course, now we know that is not the case, however players have noticed numerous hints and teases in Requiem that could hint or at the very least refer to its older games.
From assets that could be clearly inspired and intended to be re-used, just like Requiem has re-used assets, for its Remakes to entire branding on objects being teases to the franchise.

Fans speculated that after the success of the Remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 it would only be logical to follow that up with an all-new Remake of 1 and 5, however those rumors had been confirmed to be false and thus debunked entirely by Capcom themselves.

However, both IGN and Gamespot are reporting that two Remakes are currently in development. The first Remake would be Resident Evil 0 that released back in 2002 on the Gamecube to bad reviews, which story wise is a prequel game to the first Resident Evil.
The next Remake is claimed to be Resident Evil Code: Veronica, which originally released for the Dreamcast in 2000, which takes place 3 months after the story events of Resident Evil 2.
If both are true, the first logical Remake would be Code: Veronica, with a release window of 2027.

As a side note, an insider is also claiming Capcom is planning a big franchise strategy meeting in 2027 to decide the future direction of Resident Evil after the latest Requiem entry.
